Buying Boat today or family will throw me in the drink!

Looking at a fresh water 1990 sea ray 230cc with a 5.7L 260 HP I/O. Don't know the hours.

It appears clean, going to check it out today. Any advise or feed back on this model boat would be sincerely appreciated. Water is still cold in virginia beach and my kids will throw me in the drink if we do not own a boat by the weekend!

Two pieces of advice....

Fools rush in.

The wrong boat at the best price in the world is still the wrong boat.

I wouldn't be pressured into making a fast decision about any boat. One that old needs to be surveyed or you could be making a VERY expensive mistake.

I would tell my kids to "stick it" if I was you. I will buy the right boat when I am damn good and ready. They will also want to throw you in the drink if you buy a boat that is in the shop all summer!

I would run it on muffs on the trailer as well as test it in the water. If something seems like it just isn't quite right, it probably isn't!

These days, any boat you buy will be yours for a long time given the resale market. Best to get a thorough survey and tell the kids that it may take a few weeks to do it right.

If that is the case, forget used and buy new.

As said, don't make a quick decision, check it over with a fine tooth comb.

I gave $4500 for my 89. Trailer, camper canvas, mooring cover, anchor and ropes. Pulls good behind a ½ ton truck. Was an awesome first boat. 1300 + hrs on the 260 Merc. Climbed outa the water on just the two barrel. Great, Great family boat to pull kids on tubes. Had no problem getting $5500 for it after running just one tank of gas out.

Look the thing over with some common sense. Take a friend for another set of eyes. Take it out on a good sea trial and shake it down good. Don’t give too much for it.

He has the cure for rushing into a boat purchase. What ALL of his videos on replacing rot. Then ask the kids if they want to watch. After just watching all the videos they will want you to get the right boat. Take your time and perform your due diligence.
