I am in the market for a used 22-24' Sundeck and have been given the following advice:

- Get at least 300 hp if you want to tow anyone - including for a 22
- 200 hours is a lot of hours, get something below 100 hours.
- Only get Freshwater boats.
- Use NADA to check prices (is there a better way to get a good price).
- Have dealers compete
- Get an independent survey (how does one get an indepedent surveyor?)

Any reaction to that?

Who is giving the advice?? You may want to do more research for yourself.
Have to agree with Scott about the 200 hour moron. The maintenance details are more importance.
Have to throw the BS flag on the 300HP to pull somebody. Lot more needs to go into that. How big is the person being towed, are you talking skiing or tubing, how many on the boat, how much stuff on the boat, etc, etc.....

First ... Welcome to CSR. This site is loaded with good information. Just ask! The advanced search feature can be helpful at times too.

I agree with Scott & would like to add...

"at least 300 HP" ? Really? I would think you could tow 4 people if you got 300 HP in a 22' boat.

"have dealers compete". Let me know how this works out for you. Even in the rare event you find two identical boats, a short distance apart, I doubt a dealer is going to want to hear that "Joe Blow down the road has the same boat for $3k less"

Again, welcome to CSR.

EDIT: I think standard is 260 HP. Optional larger engine& drive may be near 300Hp

I think that all of those suggestions are great, but that wuold be the ideal situation and you most likely won't be able to satisfy all of them. 300 hp would be a great ski boat, but not necessary. 200 hours is a lot if the boat is only one year old. Freshwater is better only in that they are generally cleaner with regard to the engine and the drive. Not sure how things are where you live, but I have generally found that boats in real good condition where I live sell for signifcantly more than NADA value.
