I was wondering what the burn rate difference is between the Gas and Diesel on the 2004 Sundancer 390 with the Cummins vs 8.1's. I am trying to figure out the Breakeven to move to diesel. We boat on lake huron and travel about 400 - 500 miles each summer. My guess is the diesel's are not worth the premium. So the questions is:
1. what is the cruising speed and burn rate for a 2004 390 Dancer with 8.1's?

I have heard that diesels burn between 20% and 30% less fuel? Is that about right? If it is then I can calulate the price to operate each boat.
Also, it seem like diesel are about $40,000 more on this vintage of boat. After another 5 years however the premium seems to go away and the diesels are closer in value to the gassers. Do you agree with that?
