I bought an articulating mount for a 22" TV to put in the cabin of our 290. I am going to mount it above the galley on the bulkhead between the galley and the aft cabin. Are these usually wood underneath the vinyl? I don't want to pull the vinyl back to check the material, but also want to be prepared to what I'm screwing into. How about thickness? I don't want to punch through the other side

I did this on my 320. Behind the vinyl there is a bit of padding then a thin backer board ( I'd say 1/4 inch). Then comes a small cavity (about 4 inches) then the fiberglass between the door and the helm. I secure a 1/2" piece of plywood to the fiberglass side and bolted through it into the bulk head. my mounting bracket in the cabin distributed the load of the bolts but you have be careful not to over tighten.

I went with very short course thread drywall screws. I dont remember the exact length but I want to say 1/2". The tv is very light (22" LED) so hopefully they have enough holding power in that material. If not, Ill through bolt them with a piece of plywood on the back side. I would likely wrap it in a similar color vinyl as the wall covering to help hide it.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are a couple of reasons I would not use dry wall screws:

- Dry wall screws are brittle and could snap from the fiberglass vibration and torsional movement when running the boat.

- Dry wall screws rust easily.

Lastly, if it is mounted into thin fiberglass it should be thru bolted with a backer board so it does not tear out of the fiberglass.

I tend to overthink my DIY installations, but better safe than sorry!

I did it and used SS 10/32 screws giant flat washers as backing plates and nylock nuts so they won't loosen up. So far so good. I have pics on my blog, of both of the installs.

This may or may not help, and the photos are not of the completed job but during a "dry fitting".
Anyway, here is the idea I had and implemented on my 250...

Good point. I'll probably though bolt with a backer before we launch. Easy enough to do

I just got done skimming the blog. Saw no mention of a 19" Samsung but saw some final pics. But no installation pics showing the mounting or bolts. Care to post them here? I'd like to see how you did this. Putting a backer plate of wood on the fiberglass under my helm isn't real practical, as i have a DC circuit breaker box there.
