I have a 1986 268 searay weekender. I'm thinking about installing a permenant ice chest/cooler on the port side.I have room in my mid berth compartment. My idea is to cut a hole in the port side floor in front of the seat. Then install a access panel. Any ideas where i can get an insulated box for under the deck?

I'm not sure I'd be willing to cut a hole in my floor, but that's just me! I'd look at building a standard size box that you could either drop in a standard size cooler or just build it out of starboard and built a second box slightly larger using expanding foam to insulate the void between the too. Add a hose to your bilge with a valve on it so you can keep the cold water in and you'r all set. I'm not sure how you'd build the top/floor to insulate and seat correctly, but I'm sure you'll figure out a way. I'd also build the piece that covers the floor before I cut any holes. I would want to match the paint and nonskid pattern before I cut the hole!
