Building a swim platform

I've really enjoyed following your thread. You've done a far superior job than I was originally expecting. It's like it came off the factory floor. I'll bet you're really looking forward to kicking back and enjoying a cold one on it.

Thanks all! I'm leaving town tonight through Sunday morning so I won't get to do anything this week.........which really sucks because the weather is absolutely awesome. It'll probably snow again next week and really screw me up. I want to get it on the boat just so I can have my garage back!

I'm impressed! What a professional touch! ...and I like the fact you managed to keep the two original teak plates! :smt038

At first I was a little skeptical, but now....WOW. You should go into business making swimplatforms.

Thanks Pietro! I see yours looks like it touches the water. Did you raise it up higher than the original, or is it mounted at the same height as the original? I'd like mine to not touch the water.

Thanks! I'm hoping to put it on this weekend. Hopefully the weather and a few other things will cooperate. I'll update with more pics when I do.

One thing I have done to both of my Sea Rays (an '88 390EC and the 450DA) that you might want to consider is to get a piece of rubrail, both the vinyl and stainless insert, and put them on the outer upper edge of the swim platform. You would be surprised how many times the rub rail has saved a boo-boo, usually from friends coming aboard from dinghys that have Weaver davit hooks mounted on them or docking in a sizeable crosswind.

I'll consider it, Frank. I did order trim for the bottom edge of the platform, but it hasn't arrived yet. My concern is people with Jet Skis, like my brother bumpinig into it. That'll bother me more than a little.

The platform is on and done!!!!!!!!!!!!almost. I still have to refinish my teak grates, then it's done. It took 3 months and 5 days by the calendar, but I was gone for 21 of those days. It cost just just under 1500 bucks. I'm happy with the results.

I also installed my Pietro tab.

Great job! I think I'll put a couple of pop-up cleats, nice idea.

keep me posted on how the tab will do.

Jet skis, dinghys, kayaks, even kids dragging junk back from the beach all worry me. From experience, the jet skis are the most challenging to manage. They are so low that they will ride under the platform when someone tries to board the boat from the ski and when their weight is on the boat, the ski pops back up under the edge of the platform. I don't have an decent photos of the platform with the rubrail attached, but these might give you some ideas:
