Buff Magic

How does Supercut compare to Buff Magic in regards to grit? I was not impressed with the $150 pail of Buff Magic on significant oxidation. Maybe the 1200 wet sanding with paper is the way to go.

There is no comparison between Buff Magic and super cut. Super Cut can effectively remove 600 grit or finer sanding scratches. It's absoultely the best stuff there is....Period.

Thanks for the tip. I had to drive about 30 miles to get the supercut, but it did the job. I didnt want to get into wet sanding. I went over the boat with super cut and removed the oxide- Now am going over again with 3M 1900 grit scratch removal which seems to clean up any haze that I missed. Changing the pads occasionly seems to help-probably because of the oxide build up that HIFI mentioned. Darn- Its nice in Florida-Just want to go boating. I dont know what Buff Magic is about as it doesnt seem to have any grit in it. Didnt work at all as I mentioned. Maybe its a super wax remover, because some people swear by it.

I bought a 1990 Regal 255XL, she sat for over 4 years with zero love. Put it to her with some Buff Magic, a variable polisher and finished it off with Maguires #56. Mind you it was no easy task but it worked and it brought out that blue some kinda rich too. The secret I found in using it was to use a small amount in this case less is better, start slow around 1200 rpm working the product into the gel and gradually increase the buffer speed to the max. This seemed to do it rather nice and was very rewarding, so I decided to cover my shine with a coat of Maguires #56 and it brought it out even more with a random buffer (it was lighter). I took the picture at the end of the summer to show, I hope it posts.

Buff Magic does have a very fine grit that goes away as you buff. I did the complete boat and never did I burn the gel coat (try it sometime, you'll see how hard it really is to do.) My best advise is to get several applicators and change them frequently, use wool applicators and microfiber bonnets, you will see the difference. Don't go for the Miller Light until your at least 60% done or you will never make it ..... It only took 75% of the 22oz. Buff Magic can and 50% of the Maguiers for the 25 footer. I anticipate the whole can and 1.25 of the wax for the 34 footer.

I just bought my 1988 340 EC and am looking very forward to doing her with Buff Magic, I know it's going to be a painful weekend but I will be able to see the results after all it's only been a season for my Sea Ray

Jeff, you did a great job on the regal... Can't wait to see what you do with the 340... It is a lot of area but once you start its not so bad...

Just ordered the Buff Magic and Pro Polish, along with 4 wool pads and 2 gray foam finishing pads. Picked up a rotary polisher from harbor Freight for $45. Couldn't justify the over $200 price for the DeWalt.

Figure I will start this project in very late March or early April. My blue hull is looking hazy...

I am in the middle of working on a friends 2000 410 EC that came from Florida a few years ago and the gelcoat really needed help. I am buffing with my usual mix of Buff Magic with a wool pad on my dewalt rotary and following up with Rejex by hand. The boat is turning out better than it ever has and I have done it the past 3 years, each year it gets better and better.

My point is, if Buff Magic doesn't bring out the shine right away you need to keep at it and each year you will be more and more impressed.

Ok, I have just read the whole thread, and as a satisfied user of Buff Magic, I feel it my duty to ask if the fine folks at Shurhold will be offering the same discount to CSR members again this month (or March perhaps?)

Just a reminder to anybody local to the New Buffalo, Michigan City, St. Joe area that Sweetwater Boating Supplies in New Buffalo has Buff Magic for 21.95 a can.

Good luck with harbor freight with buffers. I recently started my gel coat restoration and was using various grits of compound. I blew up 3 different harbor freight buffers (2 drill masters and 1 Chicago) in less than a week. This cost me time and milage (20) running back to the store for refunds.12-8-2011 SeaRay.jpg After looking at the prices at the local paint stores, I finally ordered a Makita with the bag-both style handles and a real wool pad for $185 with free shipping through amazon. This was the same number the paint shop gave me for $232. I beleive the harbor freight controllers just wont take the abuse.

So how long do you guys think it will take me to Buff Magic and Pro Polish a 31' boat? Do I need to plan for 5 days or more like 2? I'm talking just from the rub rail down...

I used to buff magic and pro polish my 290DA in 2 days.

8 hrs a day or so

I buffed my 280DA last year with Buff Magic and then Pro Polish. Used a rotary for the Buff Magic and the random orbit polisher for the Pro Polish. It also took me two days, doing nothing else that weekend.

I'm going to try a different polish this year, and will probably use the rotary for it as well. Just seems to do a better job. I'm sticking with the Buff Magic though, it did a great job.
