Read a short piece in one of the Boating magazines this week talking about Searay and it's pending sale. Really had a depressing undertone to it...

We are business as usual and having very good boat shows that are bringing a lot of new customers into the brand at my dealership. We will all be glad to know who the new owners are and are very hopeful of the future. Like I said in my previous post the best thing that ever happen to a previous company I worked for was being sold from a parent company that had ZERO business running the brand. We were greeted by the new parent with a large cash infusion so we came out with lots of new and exciting models.

I'm willing to bet money they moved all losses on the books to the Sea Ray brand prior to the sale in order to tidy up their balance sheet.

It was in the Febuary edition of Power and MotorYacht magazine. The write up is under "Sightlines" by Michael Peters. The article is titled: "Goliath: A Shift in the Sands,"

I have not yet been able to find an online version. Just in the magazine.

Rusty, I second the motion regarding keeping on great people like yourself. Mary and I enjoyed meeting you at the Miami show. (We are the Couple that nabbed you late on Thursday)

Lets just hope Sea Ray goes the way of Volvo and Jaguar once Ford sold them; after years of trying to homoganize them into their way of designing cars. Now both are doing well and their products and profits are better than they have been in years.
P.S.Rusty: weve setteled on a 48DA. Hav'nt pulled the trigger yet but enjoy shopping.

    Hey Bob,

Glad you are narrowing your search down, and you found a good one in the 48DA. Email or PM me with the HIN of the boat you are looking at.
There are many professional boat builders here who are anxious about continuing to build the brand leader Sea Ray boats. I certainly appreciate your kind words but my focus is for the younger folks working here and their stability. I too was once a young man employed here, and had two small children at home counting on me to feed them. Those two are now doing better than I so again, I'm an old timer who just wants the Sea Ray blood to continue to flow for years to come, for everyone!
It was my absolute honor and pleasure meeting you and Mary. I know we were limited in our time but the impact was just as strong had we talked all day.
I remain at your service sir.

    Capt. Rusty

    "
Brunswick Corp. has ended the sales process for its Sea Ray and Meridian brands; it will continue production of the boats but will discontinue the yacht and sport yacht models.

The company says it will revitalize the Sea Ray brand by capitalizing on growth opportunities in its sport boat and cruiser product categories.

Sea Ray will begin to wind down sport yacht and yacht production in the third quarter at its Sykes Creek and Palm Coast, Fla., facilities, involving the elimination of as many as 825 positions."

I thought the yachts were the profitable models.

"Palm Coast is targeted for closure as soon as practical in 2018, while a portion of Sykes Creek will continue to operate for the foreseeable future to support customer service and warranty obligations, along with other operational requirements."

Glad that my local plant here in Tellico/ Vonore is safe for the time being, but hate that 825 jobs in Florida are going bye-bye

Sad news about the Palm Coast plant. It's the largest employer in our county.

    +1.... Very disappointing.

Sykes Creek and Palm Coast, Fla., facilities, involving the elimination of as many as 825 positions.

I can only offer my sincere support and hope for positive outcomes for those dedicated employees affected by these changes. So many have spent so long producing and supporting our past times and have done it with excellence.

Good Luck and thank you for your service to all of us!!

IMHO...Not a good day for SR. I hope that our favorite Captain will be alright once the dust settles as well as all the other good people involved who are losing their jobs.

Articles says that the company will concentrate on emerging trends in the "24- to 40 ft categories" . . . my guess, that means big day boats like the SLX 400 and revamped cruisers like the 320 Sundancer have been hits . . .

Yep 20-40 ft. is the target range going forward. They have cancelled orders left and right for
purchased parts for several Sport Yachts & L-Class.. Expecting full credit for product delivered 1-2 months ago. Dreaming....
