bringing a potbelly pig on boat

Yeah, I've had friends that have had a skunk as a pet too, another had a ferret. I don't understand them either.

OK... wait... wait... Another question...

If your boat is at the dock with your wife and pet sitting inside and some people walk by and say "Man... look at that pig", do you know which of the three they are talking about?

Ko-Jac is a pot belly pig not a livestock pig. He is just as much apart of our family as dogs, or cats. He boats with us. Our dock mates enjoy seeing him, and he is very popular on the river. So all of you with the bacon, and eating and killing jokes get over yourselves. Your right this is a boating site and we have a challenge to over come getting our pig on our boat, and asked for legitimate suggestions. What is so hard about that?

Although inexpensive, the weight and size of the unit will likely be an issue. The problem would be finding one that lifts such a small amount of weight.

If I were needing something like this I would get a simple small manual winch (similar to the ones on boat trailers) and have a post with pivot and arm welded out of aluminum tubing at a metal fab shop. Then you could add a couple of pulleys and your done. Would not have to be very tall. The mounting flange could be bolted to your swim platform similar to how some grills are mounted.

A simple version requiring no winch or pulleys would be the pivoting arm and a small rope hoist or small block and fall. The rope hoist would likely need more vertical height to operate than the winch system.

Lots of slings to be had that are made for dogs. Our dogs life vest has a handle on it that will hold her entire weight.

We had a pot belly pig as a pet years ago and had to get rid of her as she was destroying our carpets by try to root them up at the seams. She now lives the good life with others pot bellies on a farm.

How about a shrimp or crab pot hauler?
It has "Pot" right in the name?

Get a little sling for your bacon buddy and you're all set. I can't believe we have a thread about a pig. I just keep thinking rottiserie on the Newport.

I googled "How to pick up a pig" and my wife walked in to my office and caught me. She is not talking to me now.

That's very funny!!!!

Now that is a cool mod... I can see this boat listed on yachtworld.com with, instead of a "dinghy lift", a "pig lift"...

You may want to start a new company called "Marine Pig Lifts"... Instead of that girl with the red bikini here on CSR saying "Give your dinghy a lift", you could put that black pig with a polka dot yellow bikini in a hoist... Could have a tag line of "Give your pig a lift... and make your wife jealous"

I think this is Pack66pigman's chance to be CEO of the next big thing.... literally...

Oh man you guys are mean!!!! LOL

Hey the pot puller is a great idea. If you have down riggers on your boat it will attach to the scotty base plate.

Good luck and don't mind some of the comments. It is all in good fun and sports of a cabin fever boating crowd!

...........Hey the pot puller is a great idea. ...........
It may be embarassing for the pig though. All of the other pigs on the dock that can get on and off their boats just fine, may point and laugh seeing this one getting slung aboard? I"m not sure...we don't have too many pig boaters 'round here.

Not for the dock. For when we are beached and we want to take him on and off to hang out on the beach. He can get on and off the boat fine at the dock. So far Ko-Jac is the only pig boater in our area that we know of as well. He is pretty well known in the area.

Great thanks for your input... Ko-Jac lives in the house as well. We have hard wood floors. He really has never tried to root in the house ever, not even when he was small. He does how ever like to take the sofa cushions off and push them all over the living room. But only when he has not gotten his way in a matter. To coin and exact phrase "PIG HEADED" Thanks again.

I asked earlier about a life jacket with the thought of floating him ashore if he doesn't mind the water. If the jacket had two handles, two people should be able to lift the big guy out of the water onto the boat. BTW, our dog groomer has a potbelly pig just like Ko-Jac and he was cute as heck as a piglet.

This is ACTUALLY a great idea and we will look into it. Being we are fresh water I am sure we wouldnt of thought of this, ( until we watch Deadliest Catch). Thanks. This could work pretty well.

Well making a life jacket, we had to be creative. Most dog sized stuff just dont fit this COMPACT fellow. Yes Ko-Jac was as cute as cute as could be when he was tiny. To us he is still cute and handsome. He is very smart, very dedicated and very loyal. Can be high maintenance with some things, but it is all part of having animals in the family right?
