Does anyone have any experience using non-mercruiser branded gear lube in their Bravo 3 outdrives. The mercruiser product is labelled "high performance". Is there any difference?
Just curious...

I have always used the Merc/Quicksilver brand and the high performance version (on my B3). Can't speak on one vs. the other, but this is one area where I don't see a benefit in the cost savings vs. generic, other brand or non-high-performance.

For no more than it costs, I've always stuck with Mercruiser gear lube, and other fluids.

I mixed the two gear lubes an aftermarket and Merc's as an experiment - NOT in the drive. Mixed them and waited. The two gear lubes separated after a month. After my experiment. I decided it was too risky.

Just stick with the Merc products. They are tried and true, and really don't cost that much more than the generic brands. The pennies you save may end up costing you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars if the competing products don't perform as promised.
