I just got off of the phone with my dealer. I'm scheduling my 100 annual service which includes the BravoIII service. $480

Todd, that is a great PRICE!

My 100 hours service a year ago cost me 980.

This year, it has only cost me the parts to do the service plus 140 to have the drive pulled. I have saved over 400-500 dollars.

papogator..

I also live in Miami, if you need a hand next time send me PM.. Between my brother-in-law and myself we have all the tools to remove/replace the drive/bellows/gimbal ring and we have the alignment tool. Done the process many times....

In the summer, we usually hang out by Elliot Key just a few yards north of university pier and launch from Matheson Hammock..

good luck

I may have seen your boat out there. I am always at Elliott Key or university dock. Hope to see you guys out there someday.

What trying to make my envious of your cheap service :(

My service that they are saying I need is the 2yr/200hrs service but I don't even have 100hrs yet but they say I need to do the service anyways cause it's been 2 years.

Anyways as for my location I do live near Tampa just outside the city in Odessa, in the North West corner of Hillsborough County however the boat is kept at a house my mother-in-law owns in Punta Gorda (Punta Gorda Isles) storage is A LOT cheaper there and well the boating is alot better there in my opinion. I'd rather drive an 1.5 hours and boat there then up here in the bay. Beside storage there costs me $39 a month up here in tampa they want $150 a month.

How many hours of labor did they charge you in the quote?

How many hours of labor did they charge you in the quote?

$763.00 is Labor
$428.57 in parts
$80.07 Other Services

Then they are willing to throw in a free oil change so that knocks off $152.92 according to them.

And looking at the parts list I'm a bit confused on some of the parts. I have a 5.0 MPI Engine. I thought I DIDN'T have a distributor cap but according to the parts list I need a 710-898253T22 CAP-DISTRIBUTOR for $81.70
CORROSION BLOCK 12 $19.99 isn't that just CRC stuff I already keep on the engine?
$119.92 for Spark Plugs

If you want the whole list of what they say are parts I can put that.

We do have a distributor cap and rotor. However, I did not change them out this year as my mechanic told me that it was not required to do so. I do not know how important it is for that particular part.

As for the spark plugs, I believe for our engine it is AC 41-932. You can get that spark plugs for much cheaper than what MM charge you for each spark plugs.

I need to take a closer look at my engine then as I think I would of noticed a distributor and rotor.

Here is the list of all the parts they say they need to do the 2yr/200hr service.

710-16755T 1 INSTALL KIT @2 $6.80 (qty 1 @ $6.80)

710-92-858050 OIL 4-CYCLE 55 GL $34.92 (qty 6 @ $5.82)
710-35-866340 FILTER-OIL $9.00 (qty 1 @ $9.00)
198-CB12 CORROSION BLOCK 12 $19.99 (qty 1 @ $19.99)
710-898253T22 CAP-DISTRIBUTOR $81.70 (qty 1 @ $81.70)
710-898253013 ROTOR $26.36 (qty 1 @ $26.36)
710-33-884019 SPARK PLUGS, AC 41- $119.92 (qty 8 @ $14.99)
710-21-861476 VALVE-PCV $5.62 (qty 1 @ $5.62)

710-35-866171 FILTER-FUEL $51.40 (qty 1 @ $51.40)
710-35-863829 MUFFLER-IAC $1.24 (qty 1 @ $1.24)

That's the parts, funny thing is part of other services in $30.00 FREIGHT EXTERNAL charge.

I have a list of what they do as well but I'll save that for a post tomorrow as it's a pretty long list.

Do you all use the sea ray dealer? For engine/drive work (my boat is long out of warranty) I go to a mercruiser certified shop (whatever their highest level is...premier I think it is?) who have so far, from my limited use, been great. $350 for an oil change and an impeller change, and would pull the drive and check the alignment for one hour ($95)

The distributor is located on transom side of the engine. U should see where the spark plugs are connected to. I took pictures, however, I cannot find the the cable to pull the pictures from the camera. I will find another way tomorrow if you haven't found the distributor yet.

That's gonna be one of the issues, have you ever seen our engine in a 240 sundeck? I don't think it's possible for me to reach the transom wall. I'm not sure how MM or anyone does it.

$120 for spark plugs:wow: what are they made out of gold?...

Ok that part number is a platinum plug, but you can get them for $60/8 at your local autoparts dealer.

Change them yourself, platinum plugs are so much easier to change because there is no gapping involved. Old one out, new one in.

You can get to your distributor, you just may not be in a comfortable position once you get there:grin:

Yeah, when I did my first service, I saw that on my receipt and I was shocked.

By the way, I was looking over my service manual about distributor cap and rotor, how important is it to find the No. 1 cylinder to be at TDC? Replacing the distributor cap is not just take off and put back on is it?

No thats only for dropping a distributor in. Cap and rotor are like spark plugs. Old ones off, new ones on.

Just don't turn the rotor, pull straight up. It may on there pretty good. It only goes on one way so don't worry about that.

I gave myself a fatlip last year pulling one out, so don't put your face over it as your pulling:lol:

I am going to differ with you on the Platinum plugs and setting the gap. I just changed the plugs on an engine and the gaps were off a measurable amount. Plus not all gaps are set for your use. I have on engine that takes gaps at .035 and our of the box they are set at about .020. Go figure. Gap tool is $2.59 at your auto store.
