:thumbsup:Just bought a 1986 Sea Ray Seville. I thought I got a good deal on the boat. I knew she had issues with a soft deck. Curiosity got the best of me and now I'm smiling wondering how to get out of this mess!

I'll post pictures of her when I get a chance.

Thanks for the help in advance. I'm going to need it!

So far this is where I am. My wife keeps wondering why I'm walking around mad....:smt043

Anyone been through this with this boat?

Hopefully you are "handy".

Yeah...the 'ole "soft deck" situation otherwise know as the "tip of the iceberg"...good luck with it.

Dude,
Anyone living in a house that beautiful has no reason to be mad............ unless he's in pre-foreclosure, which I pray ur not.........

but you have sorta the same problem I have with my 88 Seville......... very similar boat, but I've yet begun to do the tear out......... I plan to have all the reupholstery done in or near Mexico in Texas........... but that's thinking ahead........ based on what I see so far in ur pic's.........ur gonna do fine........ just hang in there.

And all the best,
Dennis,

I bought a runabout for ****z-n-gigglz this year. 1986 190 SR Seville. Floor is solid but my seats were shot. When you get to that point Overtons has some replacements that sit right on your Fiberglass bases with some minor modifications. Good luck and hang in there, if she runs strong mechanically you'll love it when all is said and done

Omg......

YOU GOT IF FOR VERY CHEAP????

I did pay under $800.00 for the boat and trailer. The engine runs. I figure I have a little room to move!:smt038

The word B. O. A. T. Bust Out Another Thousand. You are not even at the first thousand yet.... I see no problems that can't be fixed. You need to be at least 2000. before you are mad and stressing. All is still good cause You my friend have a winter project.

I would love to find a 27-29 foot at that price that needs a total rebuild, especially something like an Amberjack style.
For $800 you have a good opportunity to earn some good sweat equity.

You have either just walked into you next sick obssesion, or your worst nightmare. Your outlook will determine the vessel's fate!

So Excited!!...I found good wood before the transom!!!

I had to get a little creative in lifting and supporting the motor enough to get the old motor mount block out.
Got all of the old rotten wood out and a new motor mount block cut and temporarily installed.

Here's some updated pictures from today.

I didn't see any that were that big at this price when I was looking. There are a ton of project boats around here. I didn't think I was buying one of them!

So here are the pictures of the new stringers installed with just the PL Glue and a few galvanized finish nails to hold everything together. Grinding is awful. I did two coats of poly resin. The first coat was with Fiberglass Mat, the second I used Fiberglass Cloth. I think it came out great. I'll put pictures up of that work after I take the gas tank back out.
I was so excited I put her in the water over the weekend. She did fine at idle speed and a little more forward but she overheats as soon as I started asking for more. Sounds awfully familiar to other life events. Anyway I had my brother-in-law tow me back to the boat ramp and took her out. She's back in the garage. No water in the oil and no oil in the water. Great sign so far. Next I need to replace the raw water pump and check for blockages in that freshwater system. Any insight into that job will be much appreciated. I have the 3.7 Mercruiser, Closed Cooling System.
Also, a quick question about running the motor on muffs. Should I be seeing water anywhere other than at the muffs location? I saw a YouTube Video and the guy had a little water coming from up by the Bellows. (I just changed 2 of my bellows. The job wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Total investment was about $150.00 in parts including $10.00 Bellow (Contact Cement) Glue, Exhaust and CV Bellow and just over 2 hours actually messing around with them.) Wasn't too sure exactly where it'd be coming from unless the water pipe was damaged up in the drive. My outdrive doesn't have water anywhere except right at the muffs.

post you outdrive info and someone will chime in on the raw water cooling question

I know bravo ones exhaust out near the transom with water and air

My outdrive is the Merc 170 Alpha....

As I was reading posts on different threads and forums last night I discovered that in my excitement I forgot to align the motor after I put in my new motor mount. I made sure that I got the new one in at the same "level" as the old one as measured using a tape measure, but I never checked the alignment with a tool. (Shoulda done that when I did my bellows since the outdrive was completely off....:smt013) Maybe that is contributing to the overheating issue. How do I know if my engine coupler is toast?
I feel like i'm getting in over my head. Persistence is my greatest friend and my worst enemy.

I'm looking for the definitive way to know if I toasted my engine coupler.

Also, since I'll be replacing my out drive’s impeller this weekend, how should I go about ensuring any and all debris from the impeller is flushed out of my sea-water system? Since the engine overheated a little (steam everywhere...I shut it down as soon as the steam showed up..) I also want to clean and flush the closed cooling system on the engine, so detailed instructions on that would be helpful as well!

Thanks!

OK. I did a ton of reading and found out what I needed to know about flushing the engine and heat exchanger. There were some great techniques used to accomplish this process.

The impeller replacement went fine. I was a little worried about the "left over part", but a called the Boat Shop around town and they said the kit was designed for several models of outdrives and inmost cases, there would be a few left over items. Whew. What a relief that was.

I did find two pieces of the impeller in my heat exchanger. They were both about 3/4 of an inch by about 1/8 of an inch. They showed up on my driveway after I flushed the heat exchanger and water tube from inside the boat. I then removed the heat exchanger completely from the boat and did the duty on that bad boy. I replaced the gaskets on the ends of the tube as well.

Here are a few pictures to tell the story of why you NEVER want to EVER start your boat without the drive being submerged in water. NOT EVEN FOR TEN SECONDS!!!
