Black Hull..................Spoiler...........Stainless Steel Windshield and a whole bunch of other options as well. This thing has to be one of the classiest sport boats ever built. I can imagine the price tag is pretty high but if you want a great sport boat this one deserves a second look. If only I could afford about three or four different Sea Rays at once. :smt101

Hey Dave, That is the boat I wanted
I don't know why SeaRay does not make a smaller version of it in the US anymore. You can still get a 240 version of it outside of the US, but it is not as nice as the 290.

Dave- We stopped by our dealer to fill out paperwork for labor and got sucked like a vaccum into the show room floor. The 290 is one sweet boat. We had to lok at the new one. ery nice indeed. Last summer Our dealer gave us a 290 for the 4th of july weekend while our boat was being repaired. As nature took its coarse we genyly guided ourselves to a 420. If it were not for the lack of seeds for that money tree.......

Dave, Check with dealer and see if you can get a test ride in it. Would like to know how it feels compared to your past 240 and your current boat. When I took a 260 out it seemed to be top heavy to me

Dave, trust me, you'll love it. I have the 290 SLX and miss having a cabin. This boat hauls.....

I know I would like it....that's the problem...........I like way too many of Sea Ray's boats.

So many boats............so little time (and money). :smt043 :smt043

I think this boat would be perfect with a genny. I like the idea of a sport boat with plenty of room in the cockpit for a large group, but a small area that you could cool down for the kids to watch tv or sleep.

the SLX is pretty low to the water, I dont think it will feel anywhere near as top heavy as a dancer.

I said before that I feel the SLX will become one of the desireable older searays later on, kind of how many like the Patchangas now, or the 31SS.

I tend to agree with your observations Rob. And that boat would probably suit us just as well as the 260DA in spite of the cramped cabin. But it's just way too pricey if equipped the way I would want.......much more so than a 260. In fact I think you could probably get a 280 for the same price. But the boat just has "class" written all over it.

Dave, this boat handles like a much smaller boat, however takes the chop really well. When we took the boat for the initial test run, the sales guy was doing about 40 mph and said "Watch this" and preceeded to make the sharpest turn I've ever done at that speed. Without any cavitations. We did a full circle just like a See-Do. Slicing through our own wake like nothing. That did it for me.

May just have to one out when I'm in PCB in June. We don't seem to get them inland here in GA. From everything I've seen on the 290SS it is one sweet boat. I've seen one of the 290 SLX sweet boat also. Does the 290SS use the same hull as the 290SLX??

Hey anytime you're down here just let me know. Yes, the SS does use the same hull as the SLX. From the cockpit aft, everything is the same.

Duke...........what do you have for power in yours? I really like the twin engine models but I am wondering how the single 496 runs too.

I have twin 350 Mag's. I seriously thought about the single 496 but was told (by my dealer) that they primarily order them with twins due to better resale value. Top speed so far has been 54.5 mph. It gets onto plane really quick for a big boat. If you're ever down this way let me know.

Makes sense, since most of them are sold on the coast and used off-shore. Always nice to have a backup when you're off-shore  What kind of range do you have with twin 350s?

I'm still experimenting with range, but I've gotten about 160 miles pushing it pretty good. I probably could have gotten another 20 miles or so. Boattest.com states a range of 200 miles or so, but they didn't mention what power there were basing that on. It's very easy to lose track of how fast you're going when you're buzzing around.

Duke,

I've come across a 2005 290SS with twin 350 Mags. Does your have the bravo I or Bravo III. This one has the Bravo I. Sounds like it got everything I want, but the cockpit refrigerator. Does your SLX have the cockpit refrigerator?

No cockpit fridge?

Ack! That is probably the most important feature in the boat!!

To retrofit one should be no big deal as long as you have the right cabinet. I pulled mine out earlier this year to run some wiring. . just needed to remove one piece of molding on the cabinet. Just make sure there is a 120V outlet behind there to plug it in: You definately want the option to run on 120V or 12V.

My thought too

I've got to check it out, but I don't think it would be too hard to retro fit one. Now how about a Genset for it :smt017
