Bowthruster install yes/no?

I'm sorry but that is the most Mickey Mouse thruster I have seen.

There is a bow thruster on my 52; I think I have more fingers on my hands than times I've used it. But, when I did use it difficult or embarrassing situations were not so. If I didn't have one would I consider installing one? No, not when and where I boat... More time is spent keeping it clean than it is used.
Listen to @Capt. Rusty Higgins if you are considering one; It's a pretty radical modification to a boat and FBT is the best. So, I would say this - use the boat for at least a season then make the decision..
Regarding impact to insurance; if during the purchase survey or routine insurance surveys (usually every four or five years) something is found with the thruster condition or installation and it's not corrected the insurance company can walk away. Does a thruster affect insurance rates? No.

I will say this, I haven't really ever needed one and I don't miss not having one. But there was a time when I was trying to dock broad side to a dock and the wind was 20knts off of the dock. I could not get the bow over for the life of me and there was no room to try something fancy. I ended up having a line thrown to us and had the bow pulled in, that was embarrassing and would have been the day to have a thruster. That said I would never get a stern thruster, just don't see the need for it, but thats me.

As a previous post said, don't worry about what anyone thinks, be concerned with what makes you and your wife feel safe on your boat. Boats need to be a thing of pleasure not stress. Although when you get that one conquered please post back.
