Purchasing a 2006 DA 44 with bow thruster. Survey identified blades were pretty chewed up. Called local SR dealer for parts estimate, but they needed to check with SR. From the pics it looks like possibly two blades. Anyone have experience with vendors that sell the thruster blades?
Thanks.

Find out the brand of the thruster. Mine is made by SidePower. Needed a relay and SidePower directed me to a local marina / dealer. Haven Harbor near Annapolis. They had my part drop shipped to me. Contact info for Haven Harbor is: James Bedell, Parts Dept., Haven Harbour Marina, LLC, (800) 506-6697, www.havenharbour.com If you do have a SidePower, call them and they will hook you up with a dealer near you. Very helpful. You will need model and serial number.

Thanks Korkie. Do you recall estimated cost?

I needed a relay on the motor, not a blade. As with anything marine, pricey I am sure. Bow thrusters require a ton of power / Amps. Also be sure to keep all of the terminals tight and clean to decrease the draw.

OK. thanks Korkie.

An '06 is probably a Vetus, but it could be a Side Power. Either way just get the model number off the thruster and you can order a replacement from Defender. I've found they have the best price on these props. Definitely go with the six blade replacement. They are much quieter, smoother and a bit more effective than the original 3 blade. Be sure to order a new zinc and replace that at the same time. Easy removal and reinstall.

bmac, thanks for the information.

Mine was installed aftermarket, but it’s a Vetus. The props are plastic and the 6 blade replacement is fairly inexpensive. I think about $100.00. Phillips screwdriver and Metric Allen Key (can’t remember size) are all that are needed to swap out both the prop and zinc. If the boat is out of the water it only takes a few minutes.
