Bow Thruster?

Thanks for creating a clean topic!

With the exception of a surprise last minute on-topic reply that was carried over, all of the Four Suns replies were off-topic "wingless" stuff. Just made it under the wire...

This is a great example of the advantages of ignoring the rules.

Nice job for a trained monkey!

I've got my boat in a lot of tight places but I don't think it's prudent to try and wedge 25 tons of fiberglass, fuel and wife's shoes into a space smaller than my boat. I'm trying to stay away from other people making insurance claims on my policy.

There are two instances, for me anyway, that a bow thruster is more than a nice-to-have. Historically, I kept my boat on my dock on a river that has a 2+ knot tidal flow which ends up going sideways to the boat:

During a 2+ knot sideways tidal flow, the boat is pinned against the dock or the outer pilings and there is no way a person can push it off. For example, if the tide is pushing the boat against the dock, by pushing the bow to the port side with the thruster, putting the starboard engine in reverse and bumping the port engine between forward and neutral, the boat will move sideways from the dock and back out... without crapping up the rubrail. Not sure how one would do that without a thruster... other than doing a lot of tricks with ropes... which then makes it more than a one man operation.

The other time I find a thruster important is when I'm anchored in a shallow area. If I put an engine in forward and one in reverse and only have a few feet of water under the props, it will stir up a foot or two of the bottom (literally) and then all the raw water intakes are sucking up sand and mud and rocks. Once the anchor is up, I prefer to point the nose in the direction I'm heading out with the thruster so when I put the thing in gear, the mud is behind me and not in the intakes. If I'm in 8+ feet of water, I don't do that... If you've ever had to clean muck out of your raw water systems (and the 480 DB has a few), you'll understand....

My 2 cents.

And LOOK! It's ON TOPIC!!!!

Now you are calling Wesley a trained monkey..?? You really need to go somewhere else. While I have no scientific evidence to validate my claim, my guess is that 95% of CSR just wishes you would go away and the other 5% could probably deal with your absence without problem.

Great job Wesley...keep it up and thanks!

Just for the record, I don't want Wingless to go away. Some of the most entertaining threads are started by him.

Does he start them or does he just intrude with his nonsense on other peoples threads?

It doesnt matter how or where he participates, the key is that he does.

Just ask yourself.
  • Where would Laurel be without Hardy?
  • Abbot without Costello?
  • Tom without Jerry?
Wingless possess a certain social style that makes everyone's head snap and say to themselves.. "Is this guy for real?"

He invites so many entertaining responses that it makes the winter go by just a little bit faster. I have had my best laughs reading some the responses to his threads.

I think he is just Dynamite..

Time for a new poll?

Ok, I just didn't read back far enough. I think it went arwry with festivus44 followed by four suns and then wesly and the two of them just kept going around and round. That was rediculous. Hopefully we can stay on topic now that it's over.

Don't try to pin this on me. Are you suggesting that it went awry when I asked how one could get their boat into a spot smaller that their boat? I'm sorry, but that is a legitimate question.

What are you all talking about? Go read this thread as a new guy (posts 1 through 38) and everything is going along all A-OK and with civil conversations (although some ridiculous responses) and then BAM!

Out of the blue... with no provocation what so ever... the guy just has a melt down.

Something is weird with your site, when I click on it, it changes from what it is suppose to be.com to what it shouldn't be.com. Looks like you are boat broker, huh.

Ok, I thought festivus said something really simple and on topic, wesley took it the wrong way someone else got involved and the rest is history. It's all pretty stupid when you really stop to think about it. I think everything (in the beginning, somewhere in the middle, and towards the end) was for the most part on topic. Some people just took things a little too literal and their funny bones must have been switched off on this topic. Noone is trying to offend here or to put blame on anyone. Personally, I'd just like to talk about stern thrusters. But when we try to get others to relate to us we sometimes use descriptions that lead to confrontation in this case. I was just trying to understand what happened.

Sorry for getting involved. Don't want to upset anyone.

It's best to probably drop it all and move on.

Hi, I'm the "Dotcomd Guy and Family.
If you don't know me already the first thing I'll tell you is that I'm an avid Bayliner fan! To me, there is no line of boats which give such value, space, satisfaction of ownership, and true enjoyment in boating. I'll be surprised when someday I am able to buy another boat which gives as much bang for the buck as my Bayliner has. For those who don't understand, I hate walking into the salon of a boat looking to see how they have or have not utilized the space inside. Most all manufacturers seem to leave a chunk of space somewhere in the back (aft). This big waste of space I speak of is at the bottom of the steps underneath or behind the stairs. On most boats (other than bayliner) there is a pocket of wasted space behind the steps and the bathroom (if located aft). It's shown most on the layouts of boat brochures and just sort of blocked off... What gives? What is in there? Why don't they use it???? "I Love Bayliner"!

Maybe you should try a Bayliner forum?
