If I turn on the main rocker switch below the joy stick and then press the green on button, the green button no longer lights and the bow thruster does not operate. But if I press the main rocker switch down to the off position and move the joystick the thruster operates. Can't imagine how the wiring could spontaneously rearrange itself. Back of the joystick has all wires connected but there is one open butt connector that doesn't appear to connect to anything.
Any ideas?

That is just strange. At least it works. Sounds like a bad ground. Follow the wiring backwards. Starting at the thruster and remove and clean each connection. Try it after each segment - thruster, switch, breaker, etc. I have had issues with mine and it has always been a poor connection due to loose or a bit tarnished. Good Luck

As a follow up. At the Annapolis show both Vetus and Florida Marine Power, who do the Vetus wiring were very helpfully. They believe that it is a problem with the main power switch. The gentleman at Florida Power was surprised that the main switch has so many wires as there should just be two which energize the remote selinoid in the bilge. Looks to be a Sea Ray thing so a replacement will take some time. In the meantime the plan is to clean all the connections.

It sounds like the Control has failed. When you turn the power on and then press the green button you set in motion a timing circuit that keeps the Control energized for a few minutes and then shuts down if it isn't used during that time period. The fact it doesn't light up is an indication that something has failed in that circuit. If you could post a picture of your Control......that would be helpful.
