One of my projects this winter will be a modest upgrade of the stereo system. One thing my wife would like would be speakers on the bow as she can hear the stereo while up there unless it is turned way up. What we are looking for is a small set of speakers that we can play at a moderate volume so we can talk and still hear it.

I read in one thread a suggestion of using motorcycle speakers, but I cant find any that would hold up in a marine environment. I looked at wakeboard tower speakers, but they are larger than I want to put up on the bow.

Ideally, I would like a 4" bullet speaker, but I am not sure I will find one. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

The motorcycle stereos are getting better, but salt water may be a little hard on them. But I found these,

They may not be the best solution, but they would work. Worse case, you could get a motorcycle/ATV speker set, and just know they will last a year, maybe two, they tend to be a little smaller. Just for thought!

I was looking at the motorcycle speakers as the box speakers would be a pain to mount and bigger than I am looking for. I agree that it would be a yearly replacement, if that long. It makes me want to find a 3D printer and print my own enclosures.

I understand they being to big. But, if you could buy the motorcycle ones right, perhaps have quick connects, they could be removed easily and last a whole year! I don’t know, just thinking........ Now you have me thinking! My wife loves to lay out on the deck.

I wouldn’t put them on my bow, but these will meet your requirements. Good luck with your search.

have you checked to see if you have an open terminal on the head unit that will allow you to hook up a pair of extra speakers? if not you will likely have to use the 'pre out' terminals to connect the new speakers. this will also require you to install an amp to power the new speakers because the amp in the head unit will only power the existing speakers assuming you have 4 speakers connected now.

i just went through this myself when my wife made the comment 'i would like to have some stereo speakers in the rear of the cockpit'. that seemed like an innocent enough request but it turned into a signifcant project, at least on my boat. I now have 8 speakers and a selector switch to choose which speakers are active, all on a 21.5' boat!

good luck.

Yep, you are quite right. That is why I am trying to incorporate it now. I am planning on a new amp or two (adding a sub), so I wanted to do it all at once. My boat has 6 speakers with an amp already. 4 in the cockpit and 2 below. The problem is the sound doesn't travel well past the windshield.

I watched the 2015 Sea Ray promo video and noticed there was some sort of speaker clamped onto the sun pad rails of one of the larger boats. So Sea Ray has addressed this I'm guessing.

Found it. Look around 49sec.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYRrxoqE6-8

Those are the critters. They appear to be about 4". The question is who makes them? Thanks for that. It appears they exist so I will keep looking.

They are made by Kicker. I have not seen them in person, though, I don't know how the electrical connection is made up.

Hey... could that woman in the video be any stingier with sharing the bow sunpad? Heck, look where she's making the guy sit! Oh well, same thing happens with me at home.

He's he is getting any!

Thanks for the info.

So, here is the answer:

http://amzn.com/B00IKCD3MC

They are empty 4" enclosures. They are $150 per pair plus the speakers. The question now comes, how badly does my wife want music on the bow.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
