have a few questions about bottom painting, how important is bottom painting and how often should it be done, what are the preparation steps, can it be applied over the existing bottom paint?

how do you dewinterize your boat and also once you have done what you have to do, how do you rewinterize your boat. remind you the boat is out in the elements but it is shrink wrapped and covered

I know little about bottom paint. This past year I did not haul the boat and paint the bottom. The zincs were replaced by a diver. The dirty hull cost me 4 knots at top speed. With our 28 footer we used to have the painting done in the fall and one year we got it done in the spring. The boat went 2 knots faster at the same RPM. There are two types one that peals off the other helps prevent sea creatues from growing. Putting your boat in fresh water for a week or so will kill sea groth but barnicals will not fall off.
