Hello All

I have recently moved to South East Florida, I plan to keep my boat in the water. I know the water here has a higher salt content than back up in New York can some one please help me out what bottom paint does everyone use ? I have been usuing Interlux Micron CSC, Any help will be appreciated

John

We use SeaHawk Biocide Plus as it tends to last longer and repel growth better in warmer water.

I would strongly suggest you consider rack storage in lieu of wet slipped.

I am assuming your 225 has out drives. Outdrives dont react well to sitting in saltwater 24/7

I have always used CSC and have been happy with it. I have to agree though, I would not leave a stern drive in salt water. Rack storage and inside would be the best option.

I am in South Florida and have my 320 behind my house, and have used Petit Hydrocoat and it has worked well for me over the years.. I will be pulling the boat out next month and repainting myself (with friends) as I did a few years ago..

Hey Randy, how are you my friend?? Did you make it over to the Bahamas this summer. I think this is the first year I am not going... If I do, I might just take the boat that Bimini Bay offers for about $50.00 each way... and just spend a day there to get my conch salad and bimini bread fix!!

Anyway, there's a small do it yourself marina near my house called Marina Road Boat Yard.. That's where I've taken it and worked on it the past few times... Have to check out their fees, but it used to be $5.00 per foot for Haul/Block and Launch, $2.50/foot for environmental, $30.00 for one time tarp, and $.55/foot per day for storage. Pressure washing bottom is $3.00/foot. Monthly storage was $16.50/foot, but again that's a few years ago.. I'll be calling Monday to find out their latest rates, and will probably plan to pull the boat the beginning of August..

Hi Barry, I'm doing fine thanks, how about you? I haven't been over this season yet. I have been battling water leaks in the cabin of my boat. The water was coming from the side windows. Impossible to tell where it's coming from until you rip everything apart. I guess the life expectancy of the original caulk is about the age of my boat. I tried to fix them without taking the window out but it didn't work. I had to remove, clean, repair, prep and re-install 3 out of the 4 side windows of the boat. To do that, the inside finishes must all be removed all the way back to the bare fiberglass. What a job! I am putting in the last window back in tomorrow. Then, I'll water test it (a week of rain), then I'll take it to Palm Beach Yacht Center for a bottom job, gellcoat repair, a complete detailing and a few mechanical things that are needed. After that, I'm going to the Bahamas!!!! All that work should take about a month. I think we'll be heading over to Double Breasted Cay and Grand Cay in the northern Abacos. Bimini is getting crowded and Port Lucaya is old. Nick and I want to go where the sky is pitch black at night, the water is gin clear and there are only a few other boats around. That's the plan, we'll see what happens
Talk to you soon!

My boat is in Central Florida on the East coast. I used Pettit Hydrocoat SR and the Jury is out. Pettit Hydrocoat SR was selected based upon the Pettit rep at the Ft Lauderdale boat show. Three coats on bottom and four on sides. Prepared and painted the boat during the annual haul in April this year and splash early May. My diver said there is a lot of hard growth on the "shady" side of the boat which means the starboard side as it faces North in the slip. He was very concerned and thought it was a "dead" batch of paint; I don't know what that means. Called Pettit three weeks ago and they committed to send someone out to look but no one so far..... My optimism is waning...

Did the boat yard do the bottom paint or did you do it yourself? If the boatyard did it, I would get them involved in the process. I hope they can do something for you. For what it's worth, I have used Interlux Ultra Kote on my boat. It is really good and lasts a long time. General note for all - the new bottom paint must be the same paint or compatible with the old paint or the old paint has to be sanded off completely (or so I am told)

Went with Interlux Micron Ultra-hard. When I quoted the job out, a few marinas recommended it for our area. The boat is in the canal behind the house and I'm happy with the results so far. I do the bottom cleaning.
Good luck with your choice.

AND DON'T USE ZYREX - Unless you are trailering your boat and take it out of the water when you are finished for the day.

I did it myself which, no brag but just fact, is a much better job than the marina would have done; I watched them do a couple of other boats and wasn't satisfied with their prep and control of the application.

So, FYI Pettit has gotten back with me and they will be at the boat next Tuesday; coming up from Ft. Lauderdale. Telephone conversation was very good and centered around prep, application, visual of other boats around mine, where and when the paint was purchased. They agree the paint application isn't the issue as it would have separated from the hull so we'll see. Other than the delay in responding very good customer service so far.

As far as this thread - paint performance is just as important as the customer support and that is where I'm focusing.
