Hi all. I bottom painted my boat 2 years ago. I am planning on a haul out to do some maintenance etc. The boatyard doing the haul out and maintenance said that after two years the antifoulng agent on the bottom paint is not good. The boat should be repainted. The boat is in a slip all year in fresh water.
So my general question, is this information correct about the antifouling agent?
Thank you,

What paint was used and what does the MFG say about the paint? But in most cases two years is about it.

Orlando, in fresh water? I'm on the 6th year of ownership (albeit out of the water 6 months at a time) and have just touched up a few spots over the last couple of years. And my yard even said just touch up! They could have screwed me and said to do it since I asked.

You can tell by looking at it. It's a fair assumption that it MAY not be so good anymore... but inspecting it is the only way to know for sure.

I know a lot who do that, even in brackish/salt, but I always go by the mfg'r recommendations. But it also depends on the quality of paint used to begin with.

I have used CSC Micron and have only painted it once in the 5 years we have owned it. I do touch it up and do the waterline but that is it. The bottom stays really clean but about 6" on the side gets some slime on it. I try to clean it a few times a year by scrubbing in the water. I noticed some degradation in performance last year - mainly cruising speed and thought I would repaint the whole bottom this year. Our yard guy told me that the bottom is in great shape and that he would not repaint it. The bottom is still covered with paint but I was worried about that the hull friction was increasing due to the old paint. I am still not sure but did not paint it this year and instead tuned up the props. One question I do have is do you guys paint your exhaust castings, rudders, and trim tabs? Thanks in advance.
