I am trying to remove the transmission and v-drive from my 89 340 SD with twin 454's space is limited, anyway, I have the engine blocker up and all bolts removed and I assume the unit needs to come out as one instead of Tranny and V-drive separate? So with only about 1.5 inches from v-drive to bulkhead, I am short on room but I am hoping the engine does not to be pulled, can anyone answer this and if not, is there a good trick to separate Transmission from bell housing?

Not as hard as it seems. You will have to shift the engine aft. I did this with a couple of come a longs and stacked 4x4's laid across the hatch frame. I just set in down on the stringers just a little aft and supported the flywheel end of the engine from a chain over a 4x4. I did not have to disconnect the raw water hose or misc wiring. This will give you about 1/4 inch to spare. trans and V drive come out as a unit. I cannot imagine trying to split them down in the hole.

separating from bell housing is easy. As I recall just 4 bolts. It will come apart and input shaft is just a slip spline into the flywheel.
