About to order Borel semi custom boat warning system for high water alarm and high exhaust temperature on both CAT 3126s and generator. Easy install and very reasonably priced too.
www.borelmfg.com
The Sea Ray system will tell if a bildge pump is running but high water can be different. It will also tell if engine overheats but Borel claims exhaust temperature will rise first.
Am I missing anything and has anyone else done this and how to route the wires to the bridge on the 400 sedan bridge?
Thank you for any imput.

Have you seen the posts and great solution using a Maretron NMEA 2000 configuration to completely replace, supplement, and enhance the SR Systems Monitor system including as many other monitor elements you could imagine? Rather than have fixed point to point configuration like what you are looking at why not have a flexible configuration that can be monitored by any MFD or display connected to the network?

Great suggestion and yes I have seen but way out of my IT comfort zone. Also I don't believe my old raymarine chartplotter counts as a mfd. I felt the borel system would be an easy to use and install kiss principle type system. Must admit it may be a case of not knowing what I'm missing,.

Curious what is your reasoning for adding these alarms? Are you looking to identify loss of raw water while running ie a broken/ruptured raw water line?

There are other ways of alarming that. Aqualarm also does this type of thing if your looking for another options. Some of the remote monitor systems could do this as well and provide some useful information about how often your bilge pumps are coming on, and if you actually have a high water alarm, possibly leave time to call the marina before disaster strikes.

I'm all for alarming things that can get expensive, but one other consideration is how much panel space you have (an on most Sea rays, thats never enough)!

As far as running pulling wires, this is again a benefit of the N2K network. You could pull 1 wire 1 time and have all that monitoring in the bilge, and alarmed on the bridge. I get that the network seems intimidating, but its really quite simple...kind of like coloring by numbers. Just food for thought.

So since you have heard from Tom and Dave on N2K, here is my input as well. Your current selection is certainly cost effective and easily installed, but it is a one time install with no upgrade path. As Dave asked, is water flow a concern? If so there are other sensors that can be used and incorporated into a similar type of panel. A company called Aqua Alarm has similar panels and sensor's.

But, I can not stress enough that going N2K will be a better path in the end. Yes expensive and not for the faint of heart in electrical work. But the return is so worth the investment. There are many threads posted by all three of us (and others) on doing N2K things and using Maretron. I will look up a few and add to this post if I can find them later. But a DSM410 and RIM100 and a hand full of sensors can go a very long way.

Where on the Chesapeake are you? If your near Kent Narrows I can offer up a demo of what can be done.

Edit: Here is @ttmott 's post on the system monitor: http://clubsearay.com/index.php?thr...nd-improve-the-sea-ray-systems-monitor.91270/

On the other hand…price is right for these!

Thank you all for great advice. Yes the price is low so if only one or two seasons of peace of mind it is wrll worth it to me. The high water alarm is for sudden large water ingress vs a bildge pump meter counter. According to Borel any water intake restriction should first show up as an increase in temp at the mixing elbow area. The sensors are easy to install with no plumbing mods. Good points about networks and just one cable run but right now want to spend more time using the boat than figuring out sensors interfacers etc. This will be our first full season happily on the dark side. May get to 21st century stuff later.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Ps we are out of Haven Harbor, look for At Last, the beer is always cold now that we have a generator!

We go there a couple of times a year. Were at the old Mears, now Safe Harbor Kent Narrows.

Had the BOREL alarm system on my 10 meter

monitored soft exhaust hoses on Yanmars & genny

the sensors are bound to the soft hose in the exhaust system

Put off buying it for years - "what do I need this for?"

Had I bought this before 2018, it would have notified me to a blown raw water intake hose and the immediate overheat that ensued - "What's that burning smell?" right before the cooling system high temp alarms went off.

It happened really quick, likely less than a minute at high cruise.

Several years ago on the Boatered forum there was a discussion by a member who's boat sunk when an exhaust hose blew off while on plane, the engine continued running and did not overheat, quickly filling the engine room with water. When he came off plane there was too much water in the bilge to overcome and the boat was lost.

While the BOREL likely wouldn't have helped in this situation, one or more high water alarms would have.

Thats why I added crash pumps to my 10 meter.

Will definitely add all these items to the 450DA

Just my need for redundancy

BEST !
