I was up at Lanier yesterday checking and working on the boat. Lake looks great, still a little nippy out.

It's been in the 60's here for a few days. Now if we can only get the wind to die down a bit it would be a nice day to be on the water.

We had snow here in Charlotte yesterday too. I was thinking of taking the boat out (always wanted to say I boated in snow) but instead we are heading out today. It's sunny and mid forties here today. Solar heat will keep us in the 70's under the camper canvas..............I love winter boating !

The hope for global warming is turning out to be like waiting for budget cuts to matter....

Low 70's with zero wind this weekend. We have been on the boat since Friday evening but doing maintenance, no trips planned. At least we are on the water!

we're heading out to the coast in a few weeks, but wanted to get the boat out and running around. does allatoona have any water in it yet?

I took a little ride yesterday and the lake is nice and full. Almost too full really. All of the beaches are gone :(

It is a little cool. Snow flakes in "Hotlanta" today. Is it really March 25th?

Carter, you need to explain your first post. What is with the same picture posted at opposing 90 degree angles?

At least you can post a full size picture, I don't even know how to do that anymore since photobucket changed their format.

I wish I knew Jerry! I posted the first one from my computer - it was showing vertical - when I looked at the post, there it was rotated - so I rotated the pic 90° and re-posted it - it showed up 180° out. Go figure - I just didn't have time to fiddle with it!

72 degrees today Carter, you can go up to Tenn. and run the big Cats.

Ran them last weekend and ran Reward yesterday at Allatoona. Our normal spring was a month late this year!

Be careful on Lanier for the next few weeks. With all this new water everything has been floating off the banks and the lake is full of debris. I saw a stump floating Sunday morning.

Here is my story from another thread.

Saturday afternoon I almost sunk her. We were headed out of a little cove(Sunset Cove) where people usually gather because it is a no wake zone and there a bunch of docks to tie up to. As we headed out I was holding my friends 8 month old hang on to the steering wheel and of course the lady's where taking pictures. I heard a loud pop but didn't see anything. I kept looking behind the boat and there was nothing. Now mind you , our lake has risen 15ft in the last month or so and I have noticed a lot of debris floating in the water. There was no vibration and the boat just stayed up on plane as I'm thinking to myself, damn I hit a piece of wood. About 10 mins later we arrived at the spot where we were going to be for the night. I go throw out the anchor and as I'm getting in a position to open the rear hatch to get the rear anchor I notice the bilge pump on. Nothing out of the ordinary but it was pumping a lot of water which in not normal. I open the engine hatch and there if water just starting to cover the transmissions I see the problem. It's a 1 1/4in hole in the bottom of the boat where the speedo sensor is. Whatever we hit knocked the sensor in the boat and it came out and left the threaded housing there with no valve on water coming in. I put my hand over it and I could tell that was the only place the water was coming in at a fast rate. I shoved a rag in the hole and it took about 30 mins for the bilge pump to get all the water out. I had a friend of mine take me to shore and let me borrow their car so I could go get some supply's to fix it. I was worried the rag wouldn't hold if the boat was moving.

So I learned a few things this weekend. If you hear something stop and look around. Had I not been on plane, I believe we would have sunk. If you don't know what I'm talking about by that I will explain it and maybe it will save a boat or two. Once you are up on plane you can actually pull the plug out of your boat and it will suck the water out if there is any in the boat. That is how I used to clean my first boat. It was an 1956 aluminum runabout and I kept the plug on the inside to I could drain the water out as I didn't have a bilge pump on it.(outboard motor hand crank). I assume the same thing happened in this case because the rate of water coming in the boat when I was stopped would have sunk it in less than 10 mins. The other thing I learned is the high water alarm doesn't work and neither does the Halon system(or at least the test button does nothing). If someone could point me in the right direction on fixing these that would be great.

Yep, there has been a lot of floating debris in the lake for the last two months as water levels have recovered. With all the rain headed our way (Thursday night) there will be even more this weekend along with a lot more boaters. I would imagine more will unfortunately encounter what you did. Glad you were able to find a fix for your leak.

We have been out the last couple of evenings and it has been fantastic. Hardly anybody on the lake; moderate temps; low humidity and great sunsets:
