Boating Plans for 2009

What are your boating plans for 2009?

Just retired. Plan to cruise farther and stay longer. Also go out more on weekdays than weekends.

I was surprised that I only clocked 57 hrs this year. I did not even make the annual Block Island boys trip! Next year for sure, I will be out more.

We did 165 hrs in 07, and 115 hrs this year, due largely to work schedules. I hope to get back to 150 plus next year.

I found a new stomping ground this year, Long Island Sound, and it's great. Due to weather, we didn't get as much time as we wanted but still managed 135 hours. Now that I have a big storm under my belt, 2009 will be more adventurous. Now I just need to decide where I will dock next year... CT, NJ, RI, LI? so many options.

TT,
That is some good usage of your boat. Well done. Now you just need you some diesels under the hatch!

regards
Skip

Thanks Skip, I'm working on it...

Happy to share all the rational, factual arguments I made with my wife to convince her to go big, go diesel..
Git 'er done!

Yeah. . the Admiral would be HAPPY for me to get

"Thundering Cathedrals of American Made Torque".

The only problem would be the Green required to increase my Carbon Footprint futher. :)

Plus. . .deep water where I am is 5 feet. I suspect that would be scary with a 420DA! It would take FAR too much green to dredge the entire bay :)

I hate to say it but most likely less with a baby on the way.....due end of May.

This was our first year with the first mate. We still boated however it consisted of a short cruise to the cove and spending the afternoon on the hook swimming and taking naps. To be honest it wasn't too bad with fuel being what it was.

Also keep in mind that babies love being on plane. Ours would fall asleep as soon as we were on plane and then would wake up when we got off plane. I guess it is my son's way of saying, go fast. Our son was born in November and we went out in May.

I would like to keep my boat in 2009 but things are not looking too good right now because of the beating I took in the market. The final decision gets made three months from now. I am not looking forward to a sell decision if that's what has to happen. :smt089

I'm curious about 3 months from now being the decision point. Why is that? Not trying to being nosey, feel free to tell me to mind my own business. Selling the boat will be something else you take a big hit on.

My dock fees for 2009 will be due.

I'm in for more hopefully. I spent a lot of time in front of the house on this one this year, so hopefully next year we can be cruising more. We're at about 110 right now with a few more weekends before '09.

We only put about 15 hrs on the boat this year. Unbelievable the number of things that came up every single time we even thought about going out. Bought a bilge heater this year to try to extend the season some.

2009 has to be better!

I would like to think that I can use the boat more in '09. Lower fuel costs. Better weather. better planning. Hopefully no repairs (or not as many).

The fuel prices may be lower next summer. If that's the case, costs could be lower than last summer. Gas is about $1.89 now and diesel about $2.90. Kiplinger's forecast is for gas to average about $2.25 next summer and diesel about a buck more. We plan to do our same trips around Lake Michigan and Lake Huron next summer. Hopefully, it will be cheaper.
