Here's my not so periodic call for new members on CSR: If you're in the Charleston area, and if you're really into using your boat, not just cleaning it and hanging at the dock, please check out the Carolina Boaters on Facebook. We have a fantastic time together and we'd love to have you join us. We are an active group and we are almost always planning or having a cruise together. We mostly anchor out--one day, two days even up to 8 days, but we also do marina and beach gatherings as well. We've done coastal trips as far north as Beaufort, NC and as far south as Savannah, GA. We are very informal, and if you're new to boating in the Carolinas, we can show you some nice anchor spots up and down the coast. We have a large contingent of lake boaters in the group, many of whom trailer to the coast for a gathering, and if lake boating is mainly your thing, we have lake gatherings as well. There is also some very good technical knowledge in our group for cruiser repair and maintenance. We are on Facebook not because many of us are Facebook junkies, but because Facebook does a better job at supporting groups than Yahoo does. (We used to be on Yahoo.) If you find us on Facebook, just ask to join and message me, Nicky, or Kes with a sentence or two describing your boating background. We do this because we get a lot of fake join requests. If you can't find us on Facebook, message me here, and I'll send a link to our activity calendar.

A little history: Carolina Boaters grew out of a group of Charleston area Sea Ray owners who originally met on CSR and planned a weekend gathering in Charleston to see what it would be like. That gathering went great, and since that beginning about 7 years ago, we have grown to over 75 members (with one based in Savannah!), and welcome anyone with any brand boat who is interested in cruising and anchoring. Many of our members are active or formally active members of CSR. If you're new to power boating, or want to try anchoring out, we are always happy to help you learn the ropes.

Check us out!

How often do you gather south of Charleston? I am in Beaufort.

The group just did a trip down to Savannah in mid October. Will let you know the next time the group passes by Beaufort.

Ill come to you all anywhere between Charleston and Savannah. Guess I'll check out the Facebook site.

On the October trip that SeaDawg mentions, two of us overnighted in the Beaufort harbor outside the mandatory "pay to park" mooring zone on the way down. We then all gathered and anchored together two nights--one night at a great spot opposite Daufuskie Island that SeaDawg suggested on the New River and one night near Daufuskie in a nice spot up where the Cooper River narrows opposite Jack Crow Island.

Great Bill. Looking forward to seeing you on the site.

Sadler I think it's necessary to offer an explanation to the mods here as to why we started the Facebook club. Don't want to be accused of stealing the members from here!

We started Carolina Boaters because this club (CSR) is really a dedicated Sea Ray boat owners club. We had people that wanted to come along but didn't own a Sea Ray, and we didn't care what kind or type of boat you owned so CB'ers was born to accept any brand, so long as you loved boating, actually used the boat to cruise, and didn't mind anchoring/rafting out overnight. We are still mostly Sea Ray owners, but don't have any problem rafting up with Bayliners! In fact, we have a Trawler in the group now. Diversity man. Boat sizes range from the massive 60 footer down to my little 240. lol We even help out poor ol blow boaters. One trip a sail boat ran aground, and we pulled him off the bar and into deep water again. Thanks to Mr. Harbour and his 60ft da. I couldn't believe my eyes when he pulled that big ol boat in the shallows to help out. He's an experienced captain and it showed in his ability to handle that beautiful yacht like he did. I got a lesson on how powerful a big diesel boat is that day. When we tied off a line from Darrells boat to the sailboat, and Darrell dropped it in gear, it pulled the sailboat (23-24ft) off the bar like nothing. I mean fast! I've heard the 0 to 7 knots from big boat guys before, but I seen it for real. The captain on the sailboat about fell off the stern it jerked the boat so hard.
I tell that story to show the attitude in our little club. Great people, with no judgement of what you bring to the meetups. Just that you showed up to have a good time.

Hey Bill, I have an idea......

We have always seemed to wiz past Beaufort on our way to HHI, or Savanna. But maybe you could host a cruise in, to your area and introduce us to Beaufort! Maybe host a raft up, and town excursion/tour!
I have been wanting to see Beaufort and all it has to offer! Yea. Just join and post up the idea/trip. Then wait for the discussion to take off, next thing you know a trip is born. haha

When I say host, that is a loose term. Doesn't mean anything more than just an idea.

Hey what about our awesome trip from the lake to Charleston Harbor.

Chuck I would love to do that trip through the Pinopolis lock down the river to Charleston again. What a great time!

Didn't we anchor overnight at Beaufort one time last year on the way down to HHI? ... but did not visit the town. I'd be up for that next time for sure :)

... and to the mods; thanks for the clarification Mike. Our Facebook group has not distracted me from CSR; rather it has enhanced my time here.

That was a cool trip thru the Pinoplous locks thru Monks Corner, then down river to C-town. I'm thinking that was a CSR Rendezvous though...correct me if I'm wrong. Actually it might have been the birth of CB'ers.

Hey GJ, that's the trip your boat broke down, and I tried to get myself arrested huh? Lol

Nicky!! What are you doing here? You have that windlass mounted yet?
I'm free buddy, back to the regular work week man......yea, I know. Everyone has put their boats up for the winter dang it. I'm winter boating this year man. Maybe even with Frayed Knot. Southport with Tracy, if he ever gets his boat back. Haha

It is mounted and it works great, with booster cables from truck, easy part is done. Now for the wire fishing (grin)

I think that trip where some of you came down the Cooper River was the trip that started CB'ers. Great trip. We almost didn't break anything. :)

Since yesterday, three CSR folks have signed onto Carolina Boaters!

Nicky is giving Tracy grief because Tracy sold his 260da, and bought a Trawler...and the trawler is on the hard letting the hull dry out enough to bottom paint. AND, he can't/couldn't boat this fall! haha
