Here's my not so periodic call for new members on CSR: If you're in the Charleston area, and if you're really into using your boat, not just cleaning it and hanging at the dock, please check out the Carolina Boaters on Facebook. We have a fantastic time together and we'd love to have you join us. We are an active group and we are almost always planning or having a cruise together. We mostly anchor out--one day, two days even up to 8 days, but we also do marina and beach gatherings as well. We've done coastal trips as far north as Beaufort, NC and as far south as Savannah, GA. We are very informal, and if you're new to boating in the Carolinas, we can show you some nice anchor spots up and down the coast. We have a large contingent of lake boaters in the group, many of whom trailer to the coast for a gathering, and if lake boating is mainly your thing, we have lake gatherings as well. There is also some very good technical knowledge in our group for cruiser repair and maintenance. We are on Facebook not because many of us are Facebook junkies, but because Facebook does a better job at supporting groups than Yahoo does. (We used to be on Yahoo.) If you find us on Facebook, just ask to join and message me, Nicky, or Kes with a sentence or two describing your boating background. We do this because we get a lot of fake join requests. If you can't find us on Facebook, message me here, and I'll send a link to our activity calendar.
A little history: Carolina Boaters grew out of a group of Charleston area Sea Ray owners who originally met on CSR and planned a weekend gathering in Charleston to see what it would be like. That gathering went great, and since that beginning about 7 years ago, we have grown to over 75 members (with one based in Savannah!), and welcome anyone with any brand boat who is interested in cruising and anchoring. Many of our members are active or formally active members of CSR. If you're new to power boating, or want to try anchoring out, we are always happy to help you learn the ropes.
Check us out!
