I have a customer that required some attention on their locks in the San Juan islands. I was fortunate enough in November to take the boat out there, moor at their dock and survey the house for some locks. In January I drove up via ferry and installed the locks. I woke up and left the house early to take the boat back up, but it was raining very hard and blowing like crazy. So I decided to drive up to the ferry(1 HR), take the ferry (1+hr), do the job and return. The job took less than an hour to install these locks. Problem was there was a 4 1/2 hour wait until the next ferry came around. So Friday I got the call that one lock was defective. So yesterday I filled up the boat and headed back out. Weather didn't look great where I lived but figured I'd put up with rain this time.
Anyway, I towed the boat up and put her in. Sorry for the crappy photos from my phone.

After the job was done a diversion to Friday Harbor, waiting for the tide to come back up so I could get the boat back out of the water

Not a bad way to spend the day...thanks for the pics.

I wish I could think of some good excuse to use my boat for work too! But some of my customers I would like to push overboard too much!

Yeah the full gas tank was a nice benni for me, but since it's a defective product not good for the company. The original project was good though.

Todd,
What is the IRS business mileage allowance for boats!!!:smt043

Nice trip......thanks for the photos.... Todd, I am curious, how much time does it take to run over there from?? Swinomish??

Nice pics Todd. I used the ferry system quite a bit when I used to run service up there. Many years ago. If I was north of Federal Way and received a call on the other side I would take the ferry versus going across the Narrows. Being on the water for work always made it a great day!

Normally I would run out of Swinomish. That's about 1 1/2 hours to Friday Harbor. This time I ran out of Washington Park which cuts about a 1/2 hour off the trip but handling my boat by myself on that lauch and dock is a bit more work and care required. The rollers coming around the corner from the Rosario strait can be a pain. I got out of the water just in time. The wind began to pick up.

Yeah, this worked out well. I'm just hoping more calls come up for spring and summer time.

I know you must have been watching the weather very carefully...good work..

When I lived in Long Beach, CA I had a couple of restaurant customers on Catalina Island. Often on a nice morning my boss would come in and say, "It's time we made a couple of calls to Catalina." So we would go down get in my 23' Cobalt and head to the Island. We would see the customers, have some lunch and cruise around a bit, all on the company.

That was definitely my favorite job.
