We have a 1989 38 Aft cabin and would like to move it from Seatle to the Gulf of Mexico or Florida. Does any one have any information on transporting boats? Does any one know if SeaRay will do back hauls to Florida?

Your boat is bigger and would require a Larger transport for sure. I'm not sure if SeaRay does the "back haul" but I also know that Meridian (SeaRay's Sister company in my backyard) contracts the boat transport out.

I have a question though on the subject. What if there were a group of us which we willing to do a leg of the trip? Let's call it a SeaRay relay. Set the worries of Insurance and the sort aside for a minute. That may be the biggest issue to sort out. But I have thought of this if let's say I find a boat in WI and I asked Presentation to take a look at it for me and give me his feedback. He says I'm it's a great boat. Trusting most of our Brother's here that post enough to gauge their integrity and opinions. Let's say I fly out, like it and buy it. Is there enough of us who would assist in the haul? Maybe 60-75 miles a piece? Do we have a network big enough to make reasonable segments for CSR members to throw it on the hitch for a few miles?
I know since I have been searching it has crossed my mind and I would certainly help any of you if I could for a reasonable leg.

Food for thought?

I think this depends a great deal on boat size.

Shipping cost vs fuel cost.

For bigger boats, you end up with permit and rigging issues (ie, removal of arch and bridge). For small boats. . the fuel cost would be prohibitive.

Expensive is the short answer.

I just paid $785 to move my new 320 90 miles one way. No pilot car, height 14' (limit w/o a pilot) 35'6" long and 11'6" wide. We stopped and I paid for breakfast too half way up the mountain (add $20).

Used Norgard here in Portland, Oregon (outstanding experience, very good driver and trailer (fit perfect).

Form my experience thats a $8K to $10K+ move if via truck overland

It cost me about half that for a 370 DA, but a friend of mine used Dockwise for a 540DA and the bill was over $20K!

A dancer is cheaper because of less height. An AC will require special routing to avoid low clearance and bridge areas, and/or have the hardtop and bridge dismantled.

Maybe I am high, but a 340DA from CA to VA costs about $5K+

My 340DA from Savannah, GA to Moneta, VA was $1800 with preferred marina and customer rate because I bought the boat thru my SR dealer as the broker and marina owner... a 500 mile trip.
