Anyone replace their AC unit & thermostat and found yourself re-doing the mount? I’m looking for ideas to re-do this? I want to make it look good, yet not rip apart my boat in doing so. I’ve attached a pic of how it looks now.

At first glance, that T-stat looks too wide for this location. I would probably get a 1/4" thick piece of cream or biege seaboard (unless you can match the vinyl) to cover that hole & relocate the T-stat to a better location.

it looks like the t'stat is mounted onto a backing plate but the backing plate is not the right size for the hole....I would think about using 1/4" thick black starboard to make a new mounting plate to match the hole and insert the t'stat into the new mounting plate....you can purchase remnants of starboard on e-bay for a reasonable cost....

Before you go too far... what ac unit did you buy? Most are comparable with an adapter to the older smx controls. You may be able to just buy a 10.00 adapter and use the older control.

Remove the plastic trim piece that came with the t-stat and mount it in a piece of 1/16 black plexi glass that covers the old hole.
If you cant find black plexi you can use clear and when you are all done with the fabrication you just spray paint the --back-- of the plexi black. When installed it looks like black glass.
