Ive gotten some great feedback on some things to ask and look for on my boat survey next week (2006 320 with 58 hrs). I am meeting the inspector next thursday and going to be there when he checks it out. He says that he does not to compression testing and when we do the sea trial and run the boat wide open and it runs at top speed then the engines should be good and this should be sufficient. My buddy here in Austin that runs a service department says to get the compression test anyway....anyone have any input on this or any other advice on what to ask the inspector?

Thanks!

Get the compression test, and if the oil has more than 15 or 20 hours on it, get that tested also. Just my opinion.
good luck with your purchase

Locate a Mercruiser tech, have him do an engine scan with a DTS scan meter. It will tell if there were any alarms or engine over heating. The boat is 06, look into the risers and manifolds, 4 years is at the cusp, look along side the exhaust manifold and see if there are any water stains that would suggest that the gaskets were leaking, If the boat is RW cooled it should operate at 160 fresh water cooled around 170, if not find out if the water pump impellers were changed, if the owner says that they were ask for the maintaince records at the local marina or receipts that the owner has showing so. The risers and manifolds on that boat are dry joint exhaust type the parts alone run 1500-1700 then there is the install, that price is per engine, you have two(2) of them. rudders shold be straight ( actuall 5/8" toe in) gen should have no water pump issues, the boat should tach out around 4500- 4800. Best of luck.
