Boat Shows

My vote Brian...Retire in a year and keep your beautiful 44....Sad, but you might not be alive in 11 years!!!!! 5 years ago if someone asked me if I had 1 million dollars, what boat would I buy.....My answer then, buy a 900 K boat and keep 100K to maintain......Today, it would be a 200K boat and travel on 800K........

Just got back from the NY show.really a let down.half the Javits center is in construction.long lines to board anything.also is it just me or are boats getting smaller? What the hell is up with that,My 30 Weekender feels bigger then the new 33 or even 35 searay.

You also forgot that besides getting smaller they cost more and more.

Just got off the train from the javits center also, looks to me like the 350 is my 320. Are they playing with the numbers? the only impressive boats where the obvious, 47 dancer, 52 DB , and believe it or not ,,, the "meridian" aka bayliner 341 sedan bridge, well the thing about it is look what you get for the sticker price. I believe it is a lot of boat for the money , i know it's not a Sea Ray but it's a boat show,,, not a Sea ray show, whats everyone elses impression?

I have a friend with a silverton bridge (36 or 38) and it is 8-10 years old......NOT a SEARAY, but cost cheaper and he has had so much enjoyment from that boat and saved money when he bought new. I will say the finish on my boat is nicer, but his use each year far exceeds what I use my boat.......My boat looks like the day I bought it....His use looks like he lives on the boat and thats how he treats it......Get the boat that is right for you and forget what other people think or say.....

I agree, we have friends who also have a 42 silverton convertible, who travel all over on it and love it .I am partial to Sea Ray because of the quality and fit and finish I've been on a lot of other brands that don't come close, the powerplants are the same no matter what hull manufactuer installs them. it's the attention to detail, inovative thinking, and quality control thats makes or breaks a boat. yes? so buy the one you like ,can afford, and fits your style of boating.

brian I say spend it now "you may not be alive in 11yrs" :smt038

Joe, great idea but that wasn't one of the options. If I spend it now I have to continue to work to replenish it. I do agree with the thought of "you may not be alive in 11 yrs." My father died of cancer at 59 and had no, zero, quality of life the last two. One of the reasons I bought my first boat, ya gotta live for today and you can't take it with you!! :smt038:smt038

I had mixed reactions to the show. On one hand it was PACKED and that's a good sign. It seemed quite a few boats were being sold, and that's a good sign too, both for the dealers and the manufacturers that we need continued support from. On the other hand, there weren't many WOW boats there. We spent a lot of time on the 52DB and didn't have to wait on line to get on it (one advantage of being a past and current buyer) but we didn't go on any other boats due to the lines and the fact that there was noting else bigger than what I currently have. But, the number of vendors was pretty good and I did get a few good ideas for some new mods. All in all it was a much better show than last year but not as good as the '06 - '08 shows.

Yes i agree it was a better show than last year but not as good as years past. It was very crowded, we didn't even attempt to board a boat due to the lines but did manage to buy some useless crap in the vendor section. We had the pleasure of running into Greg and also Paul and Michelle it was great to see them. Otherwise we had about 14 or so local friends join us for a great pub crawl and dinner and made it back home to CT this afternoon for football. It was a great time and i hope to see all that can make the LI Rendevoux this summer- cmon spring!!!

That Meridian looks so nice but my friend has one in the slip next to his Searay. It never stops rocking at the dock.If you dare give it a little rock,it will continue to move forever.Must be great to sleep on.we like to joke about it.
The 47 and 52 Searay was sweet though. Also gotta love the Tiara's,all way out of my range, but one can dream.

The prices are nuts for all of them, can't understand why buy new when there are so many GREAT used boats out there but I guess someone needs to buy new so I can buy it used from them and let them take the huge Depreciation....

Hey guys, I have been away from the boards for long time, but glad to see that boating topics are active.

I made it to the NY show on Saturday, and was pleasantly surprised to run into Russ and Marybeth, along with Brian as he was dashing towards that 520 beauty.

I am agreeing with most here, the lines were the big problem this year. It was a bit of a turn off having to wait so long. I ended up passing on many boats that I wanted to check out.

Any boats out there impress you?

I was surprised with the Tiara. It is not a very popular brand around the Great South Bay, and was the first time I have seen one. Fit and finish was of very nice quality, along with a good use of space in the cabin. Blue dash was different, not sure, if heat would be a problem. I did not care much for the retractable hard top, but having a full windshield is very nice. Overall, I liked the boat.

The 36 Silverton was impressive from a value standpoint. It puts you into a good sized boat (from my perspective at least) on a shallow wallet. However, I was not over impressed with the material and finishes. I guess the old "you get what you pay for" saying holds true here.

Overall, the show was a good, and I had a good time out with my family.

Now off to post in the LI Rendezvous thread

Hey Paul,

You are a man of your word, good to see you back on line!!

It was good to see you guys, looking forward to seeing everyone this summer

Russ,
Sorry I didn't make it in to the show. I have received several mixed reports back. I had to go to Elmont Sat. AM for my wifes grandmothers BD and worked Sat. Night. Sunday was my oldest sons BD so that was out. I hope to see you @ MYC this summer!
