A buddy of mine is in the market to buy his first boat.... We live in MI so now this is the time of year everyone is pulling there for winter storage... So my question is is this a good time for him to go boat shopping for a good deal considering people may not want to pay for storage of they were planning on getting a new boat in the spring or wait til the spring after people have already bought a new boat and want to get rid of the old one???

This is a great time. My new to me 07 310 will be arriving next week.

Most people lined up storage weeks ago and paid a deposit. So I would say storage cost is not much of or even a factor. Time wise, it's not a bad time to buy in our West Michigan market.

Yeah...August is more the time to beat the storage investment timing. At this point most have already paid and are getting pulled.

Maybe beat the cost for summer though? Just paid mine today actually. Good times.

It's a good time to learn about how an owner takes care of a boat that is for sale. If I were buying, boats that were put away clean with servicing of all systems completed would be of most interest. It shows that the owner had some interest in doing things the correct way. Dirty boats with spotty records.....forget 'em.

Actually it might be a good time. Along with the purchase of the boat you might be able to negotiate with the seller to pick up the cost of his winter storage.

If the boat's been winterized, make sure the purchase contract specifies that the sale is dependent on a successful survey in the spring after launch.
