Hello Everyone!

I own a slip in a marina with power and water at the slip. Wanted to see if anyone has input regarding boat lifts and their associated costs. I have a 25 foot slip and will not have a boat larger than 25 feet. After doing some research, I'm planning to put in a boat lift before purchasing my boat. I am located in Maryland.

Any help on this one would be great.

Be sure to check with the marina first! Some will not allow lifts to be attached to the dock. Others that do allow lifts make you purchase the lift from them and they have to do the install. Lifts are a great idea depending on the type of water you are in and what kind of conditions the marina water is exposed to.
I think I would be tempted to look into the drive on floating dock style rather than the inflatable or articulating units.
Happy hunting

My slip is on a tidal river. Do you have any good information or experience with regarding to the floating drive-on systems? I was looking at boat blocks last week, but don't know of anyone who has used them and if they are good enough protection for winter storage.

I use a drive on dock for my 12 foot RIB center console and it works great, everything is out of the water. I know that in a local marina in the SF Bay area, the police and sheriff boats which are 25 foot RIB style pursuit/ patrol craft use the floating modular docks but we are not subjected to harsh winter freezing.

Hi TRod and welcome to CSR! Are you going to be in salt water or fresh water? Is your slip in a covered dock? Does the 240 Sundancer you are purchasing have A/C? The reason I ask about the A/C is that you wouldn't be able to use it if the boat is out of the water due to the raw water cooling required for the A/C system. A lot of folks like to keep the A/C running on shore power to keep the humidity out of the cabin while the boat is not in use.

I have a 7000 lb lift for my 240 DA. I am on a fresh water lake in a covered dock and I have a hydropneumatic lift that attaches to the dock, but has flotation tanks to support the boat so no additional load is placed on the dock. Regardless of white type of lift you purchase, I would suggest purchasing a used lift if you want to save some $$$. My last two lifts have been used and they work just as well as a new one provided they have been properly maintained. There are several dealers in my area that sell, install, and service lifts - new and used. So I chose to buy from them so I knew I was getting something that would be in good shape.

Here's a picture of my setup - hopefully that can help give you an idea of what I've described. Happy to help in any way I can!

That’s a great point! Sitting on a floating dock won’t allow for using the A/C if you spend time on the boat at the marina. Of course it works for me and my dink as I sit on the 44 in the A/C admiring my dink on its float:)

Lift is certainly the way to go, especially with an outdrive. True you cannot use the ac while out of the water. We keep our 340 on a lift and keep a couple of small fans running in the cabin to circulate the air. Keeps the humidity at bay.
