Since I have this obsession with my boat being spotless I installed these walkways on both sides of my lift so I can clean and wash easily. Boatfloater Inc. wanted $2500 for a set of galvanized walkways. I made these from 2X12 deck lumbar and lined them with painted 2X2 angle iron. I attached them to the lift arms with galvanized carriage bolts and angle iron. Total time to build and install 4 hrs. Cost $225

Kurt....that looks great! That will make is so easy to wax or wipe down at the end of the weekend.

Might I suggest a little sand in the next layer of varnish? That looks, well, slippery! Great way to save some bucks and it is a WHOLE lot cheaper than paying them to do it! I love the varnished look on wood and I hope it's NOT slippery!

I considered a sand base paint as I was designing them but after I put them in place it was not slippery at all. It is not varnish you see it is just water on the surface of the wood after raising the lift. The deck lumbar is that salt treated stuff you can buy at Lowes. 50$ for two pieces. 110$ for steel, 40$ in fasteners and $20 in misc crap. I swear that 16' 2X12 weighed at least 150#. Money as anything these days was a factor. I have to get clearance these days with the Mrs. to buy or do anything.

In this economy, anything over $100 is a capital purchase and has to be budgeted, approved and funded!! I hear that!
