Hello everyone, I'm in the market for new carpet. I'm thinking about purchasing the Infinity Woven "Better Than Teak" product based on the great feedback about that on this forum. I received a quote from a local installer that suggested that the cost for the snaps alone for my boat would be close to $500. The boat itself already has snaps (except for the transom/swim platform). Otherwise, all other snaps would be added on the carpet to be installed.

My question is whether $500 sounds right for the snaps that will be required for my boat. Are there any installers that can comment on this? $500 just for the snaps (no installation) seems really high. But, I really don't have a great deal to compare against.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

Sounds ridiculous. Buy, rent or borrow a snap installer and do it yourself.

You'll be putting new snap caps in the new carpet so you should use new studs on the floor also.

I doubt you have more than 100 snaps....you can find them for around $50 or so. You can pick up a 'good' snap tool called Press n Snap for about $120.

The usual stud screw is #8, if you have any loose/stripped out holes they're available with #10 screw size also. Lots of places online to buy this stuff, give them a call.

I'd buy the snap sets and tool and do it myself....it's easy. You'll have a good tool for future canvas repairs/snap replacements when your done and save some money too.

Lots of places where for less than $75 you can get the tool and all the supplies. Really easy to do. The one I have is a set of vice grips with the snap adapter welded on. Looks a little cheap, but I have done a few hundred snaps with it and I think it was $25 or so.

Sounds like there is some confusion if I read this right. Is the installer charging $500 possibly because of the labor of installing new studs in the Transom and swim platform? Plus the cost of snaps themselves??

$500 to install snap studs in the swim deck sounds very.....very... high.

On a side note, make sure it is done properly whomever does it.

- Pilot holes drilled
- slight countersink added to keep screw shank from touching gelcoat
- marine grade sealant applied to screw studs prior to insertion

I just had new Infinity Carpet installed and it took a couple of guys about an hour to install. I had existing snaps on the deck so double the time and they should charge maybe $150 - $200! Or learn how to do it yourself like previously suggested.

Post of some pics of your Infinity flooring, I would like to see it.

Don't snap it in. Remove the studs in the deck and fill with your fav penetrating epoxy and fiberglass fill. The carpet won't go anywhere. The snaps get caught on cargo and break off (coolers, cases of wine, etc). It'll be fine.

Here are a couple shot with my iPhone so they will end up sideways! I will upload them and straighten the out tomorrow. I threw in a few of my custom table I made for the Admiral.

Infinity will not stay on a swim platform without snaps.

Just ordered 75 sq feet for my 320 Sundancer. I plan to use my original carpets as a template, cut and then have them binded by someone local. Those pics look mint! Jetmart, Which color shade number is that? I ordered number 8

I have the same one and it has been working great for YEARS.....
