Boat Broken Into - Cleaned us out!

Sorry to hear about that, Somewhere in my web searches for a new boat I saw an advertisment for a Cellular boat alarm. It may be something you want to google and look into? on the LED comment that is a very cheap and inexpensive theft deterant and quite easy to install. A red LED is available at Radio shack for a buck or two wire it into a flasher from about any car available at most auto parts stores. It's the part that makes the hazard lights flash. Then wire it into a battery source tipically the boats battery. It will drain a small amount of power I would couple it with a battery tender which is a float charger that turns itself on and off when the battery drains to a certian voltage. They are about 35 bucks available at any motorcycle shop. If located in a very visual location it will look like a car alarm and deter most theifs. Especially if there are other boats in the area with no alarm or flashing LED in this case. Why go for the one with a possable alarm when there's 10 more without? I would also throw in a toggle switch so you could turn the flashing light off when using the boat it could get annoying if you take an evening plesure cruise. I would say with everything involved 10 bucks to hook it up or 45 bucks with the charger to maintain the battery. Which will also prolong battery life if the boat is parked un cranked for long periods of time.

I feel your pain! This happened to me, not quite to your extent, a few years back. They took all my "quick stuff" Cameras, laptops, cell phone etc. $5k in all. I was surprised they left my booze....I guess they didn't have taste in Sapphire Gin! I hope it all works out in the long run and that you can get your boat back to Pre condition.

I have State Farm and they treated me VERY well. In the end the theives were caught in the marina a few months later...They got what they deserved....

Damn, sorry to hear also. Our neighborhood also here in Sarasota got hit, 2 houses. What marina do you use?

Someone went around my brothers campground and broke into boats and trailers. They got a radio and amp out of one boat and lots of extension cords. Probably taking $50 extension cords and selling them for $1 in copper. Jeesh, someones needs to catch these guys and string em up!

We went ahead and removed his radio. Only took a few minutes but it sucks that you have to worry about it.

Hi Guys,

Here we are about a year later from my prior post and I can say that there has been no issues on my boat since the installation of the cellular boat alarm system. In fact, I have added a few additional components to it, such as pressure sensitive mats, etc. While I still check on it frequently to see that she's afloat, and use it as an excuse to run over and drink a beer or flip on a football game - it's nice knowing there's not a problem there, and if there should be one (even high water in the bilge, or power going off) - it will call and alert me.

Glad to hear all's well Mike.......Good Luck

our cooler, and ALL the alcohol (About 5 bottles of vodka, 1 bottle of Crown, 2 bottles of Tequila, a bottle of Jaeger, and all the sodas!!!) LOL.

Very disappointing but it can only point towards the failing economy. Be careful out there. :smt009

Dang, quite a collection of booze on board! I agree that a sticker, a red led blinking at the helm and maybe a small security camera (also with a blinking led) would probably deter most any punk looking to violate the pride and joy that are our boats!

I hope your insurance makes it right and with proper measures this never happens again. The insurance company may demand a security system. My parents had some gear stolen from their garage years ago and even though they were insured by the company for something like 25 years with no claims they would drop them without an alarm system. (of course I promptly went over and installed a system for them )
