I didn't want to hijack the iphone thread so am starting this one. I'm stuck with Sprint so do not have the ability to get the iphone - so I have a Palm Centro. Question is really regarding the bluetooth GPS receivers which are available and does anyone here have experience with them? It would be nice to be able to use it as a backup on the boat with either the phone or the laptop.

I'd also like any recommendations for software to use with the Palm or laptop. I'd rather not have the laptop at the helm - size is a problem and the fact I wouldn't be able to read the screen very well. The phone actually has a decent display even if it is small. Plus it's another toy to research and get feedback on!

For street navigation I use TomTom software and Bluetooth GAPS receiver with my Treo. They have versions for both the Palm operating system and Windows handheld devices. The Bluetooth GPS also works with my laptop. I do not plan to use my phone for maritime navigation.

If you are running Palm OS on your phone, you should look at Active Captain's new mobile application. It looks interesting, but not available yet for Windows based phones.
