Blue hulls in the Florida sun

The other cost component is containing the over-spray and protecting other boats in the area then after the painting is done, cleaning over-spray off places it shouldn’t be.

In south Florida the yards that offer painting services usually have a dedicated building they paint in. I was looking at a boat with a badly faded pewter hull and seriously considered running it to American Boat yard or Rybovitch to have it painted. The cost was less than NW Florida, the time out of service was less and we would get 2-3 weeks in S Fla. in the winter.

Frank, For yourself or someone else? I can't imagine you without your 450DA! And Bob, smart choice going with white.

Move your boat up here... Save all that maintenance ... I don't have any blue hull problems :)

Brian,

Initial thought was to re-sell. It was a repossession from the estate of a guy in our marina who passed away. 2009 model 52DA, with 75 hours on 900 hp Mans. Beautiful boat but seriously neglected. We were close money wise, but the bank didn't understand that boats like this are all sold with survey, sea trial and mechanical contingencies so they took the first offer rather than taking the boat off the market while we did the surveys. I have several folks who want the first refusal on my boat and there was money to be made on the 52, so who knows what might have happened. Meanwhile, we continue to enjoy one of the best boats Sea Ray ever built.

The blue is beautiful when clean.. But if you tap the white bumpers that are on the dock pulling in or backing in leaves a long white scuff mark right down the side... The bumpers destroy it if you don't have the cloth on them. And like everyone says it only last half the season for me before it has to be buffed again.... I had to try it once.... And this is the last color hull for me... Looks great when its clean but what a pain to matinee. The part that really gets me is the white scuff from docking if u tap the dock....

Then don't tap the dock!

I had one boo-boo with awl grip paint. Was bringing the boat south, second day on the boat. At Bald Head, tapped the dock bumper fighting the wind getting out.

Of course Reis and Matt were there helping with the lines, so I am sure they were shaking their heads at my lack of skill. Had to happen when someone I knew was observing.

Anyway got the boat home. Boat washer guy did some magic and it disappeared. Wasn't a big deal. Says something about the durability of Awl Grip paint.
