I tried to ask the experts, but no reply.

Can we make this a one-source info thread for all Blue-Hull care?

I have a Blue Hull 2005 340 Da. I bought it used, and it has a number of scrapes/rub that appear light blue, but cannot be caught by your fingernail. There are a couple which you can slightly feel by fingernail, but not too many of these.

I plan to purchase a combo of rotary polisher and orbital polisher to restore and maintain the blue hull and topsides.

By Frank Webster's rec, I'm considering the Makita Orbital http://www.topoftheline.com/makita-polisher-car-buffer.html , and from other posts, the Porter cable random orbital polisher.

Are these a good combo? Do you have other recommendations? What accessories will I need? What is the procedure for light scratches? 3M finesse followed by a polish, then wax?

What about for slightly deeper scratches that you can barely feel? 600 wet followed by what???

Thank you in advance for any advice.

John,

You may want to check out this while you are waiting for people to respond. I know a couple of people went into an explanation on which pads they use. If you do a search with porter cable you will get several discussions but I think this one goes more into what you are looking for.

Others will chime in, if you have already seen this I apoligize but thought it may help.

Hope all is well at Shell Island!!!

do they look like blue is transparent in that spots?
if yes - it is not a scratch, it is imperfection from gel-coat curing process.
buffing ans sanding wont help
the only way recommended by sea ray to fiberglass repairmen (I don't know if this is public, official information) is to rub acetone in spot in question and after few minutes of rubbing with acetone, to heat the same area with heat gun (make area hot but do not burn it), repeat many times until spot going to be less visible.
it has something to do with color pigment in clear gel coat
I've seen some spots disappear after treatment
