Has anyone been to Chaplins since July 4th...Just wondering if it is full and still rafting all the boats....I would like to go when it is not packed

I spent the night of the 12th at BI and have never seen the harbor so crowded. I did not go over to Champlains, but I know that the Boat Basin was full and the anchorage was very tight.

I spent Sun-Wed July 6-9 and we were right on the main dock with no rafting. There were plenty of moorings also.

I was at Paynes over the weekend, 7/18 through 7/20. We rafted over to Trader Vick's and while I didn't see any empty slips, I didn't see any rafting either. There were slips open at Paynes all weekend but there were several people who didn't want to leave in the pea soup yesterday. The forecast was for more wind, large swells, and strong t-storms so some people were leaving their boats and taking the ferry back. I think that if a lot of people did that it will be very busy this coming weekend when they return along with newcomers. We left at 9:00AM with 0 visibility and pretty good swells but we had them on the stern so it was no sweat. BTW, my doctor told me that banana mudslides from Trader Vick's cures all ills so I should be all set for a good while!!

Friend just got back on Friday the 18Th.
Reported champs was one third full with little rafting.
Also, electric rates are up to 40 dollars per night. He was there five days.
OUCH!!

I will be there for two weeks in August mostly on the hook by dingy beach.
Still finalizing the dates. Can't wait for a mudslide...
Mark.

We were at Champlins from the 6th through the 13th, and no rafting out there to speak of....there were open slips on the flating docks right on the main pier all week. Yes, electrical is very expensive! $20 for single 30 amp, $30 for 50 amp, and $40 for dual 30 amp PER NIGHT. If you have a 50A to Dual 30 Amp adapter...it will save you $10 per night....but I did not have one. I also saw a guy that had a 30 amp to dual 30 amp adapter...but he needed to be very careful what he ran for power.
Wetpaint.....if you request a slip right on the main pier, you should be able to get one.

Back from a dozen days in Block Island.
It has been a slow season according to the locals.
The weekends are busy but, come Monday it clears out.
I was on the hook for a few and then moved to a GREAT mooring ball, right in the middle of the three major marinas. Sitting at the OAR with mudslide in hand.. I could look out at my boat..whats better than that! Bumped into "Dancin Dave" a couple of times at the Boat Basin. He came over after the Greenport gathering. It looks like a late season push with fuel pricing droppin more people are boating.
Anybody who waited, its time to go before it too cold!
The waters warmed up, theirs space just about everywhere and the mudslides are just soo darn good.
Enjoy,
Mark.
