Has anybody come up with any kind of permanent solution on keeping the black streaks off the hull. Below my rub rail every couple of months I attract streaks which I elbow grease off with 3M products. Works good, but even after waxing, those damn streaks show up again.

Peter, I installed plastic streak guards last spring and did not have any black streaks this season. Simply a thin piece of plastic that fits under the rub rail at the areas where the water drains from the decks (usually at the cleats) and redirects it so that it falls straight down into the water away from the hull. Inexpensive too, about $6.00 for a package of six. Got them on line from ironwoodpacific.com. I do remember some members making there own, try a search.

Love it. Checked out there web site and found their product...."Streak Stoppers".

Looks like a reasonable invention and could work. Price is right, hopefully I can get at least half a summer out of them, they don't look the most durable of an item.

My waxing arm thanks you.

I have these on my 320DA, they should last a couple of seasons at least. Well worth it, and pretty easy to install - although I would do it on the hard if you can. Too easy to loose rub-rail screws if you do it in the water.

A canvas guy gave me some extra eisenglass that he had laying around from scrap. I cut them to the desired size and they have lasted all season with no issues. If I need more I'll cut them out.

Washing your boat weekly helps as does a rinse between washes. Some boats by design are more prone to streaks.

I THOUGHT THEY WERE 3M INSTALLED:huh:

I used marine and rv gutters on my weekender. I didn't stop the black streaking but it directs it to 1 place on the hull instead of entire side of hull. I can't remember the companies name but just type in rv gutters. I put mine at the bottomn of windshield,on top of side windows and direct it overboard. Easy install with 3m tape and these will last a long time

I guess you could do it that way, but I don't like sticking things on my hull sides. Pulling that edge under the metal rub rail insert is not that hard, looks better, and probably lasts longer. On my boat, there really wasn't a lot of area to stick these to and still have them work.

Bill,
I installed one under the anchor chute just using the peel and stick 3M adhesive, the curve on the rub rail was to tight too to get the streak guard under the stainless. Pre-cleaned with alcohol before installing and it has held up all season. The others were slid beneath the SS rail by loosening several screws on either side of the cleat opening.
