The mystery of the black spots in the ice and the slow production of ice are directly linked. My icemaker use to drop a try of ice about every 20-30 minutes. Last season it took a day for a half of a bin and the ice was not clean. There was what looked like black paint chips on the outside of the ice. I took the icemaker to my shop and took apart the unit. I found the tray or what they call the mold to be corroded. It was covered with some type of black coating from the factory and this coating was flaking off. This left the mold rough with sharp edges of paint sticking into the ice slots. When the icemaker senses the ice is cold enough the clock turns on a heating element under the ice mold to slightly melt the cubes so they can release. If it doesn’t release on the first attempt the clock backs up and tries again. It will do this until the ice is released. Then the tray refills and starts the cycle again. Because the tray had paint sticking into the ice, the heater had to keep coming on to release the cubes. Eventually it would work and push the cube out along with pieces of the coating. I ordered a new mold , it comes with the heating element about 75.00 Problem solved
