I saw somewhere people use black mesh, instead of clear vinyl to keep sun out.
Questions:
whats this called?
can you still see thru it and keep it up and drive boat?
does it keep rain out and let air in?
anybody have this stuff on there boat, what are your impressions pros/con?

It's sunscreen material. I have it on my 26 and will get it for my 31. You can see through it, but it does not stop rain.

okay all you Floridians! What is the name of the stuff they cover your pools with?

Seems like you could use Eisenglass for the windshield and screen everywhere else.

People in our little group of boaters we hang out with have actually had the front enclosure made from that dark sun screen material. They attach it to the bimini top and then to snaps they installed at the forward bottom side of the windshield. Their resoning which I fully agree with was that when on the hook the bow will mostly be pointed into the wind. Eisenglas above the windshield would block the cockpit area from whatever little cooling breeze there might be on a warm summer day. When under way, they remove the sunscreen for better visibility. I was appaled at what they had to pay a local marine canvas store to fabricate this forward screen, however. On a boat with an 8.5' beam and a vertical dimension of roughly 5 feet measured from the bottom of the windshield to the top of the bimini top they were charged $200 for this simple screen! :smt009 I think the Admiral is going to sew one for us as soon as I can locate the material. I just can't imagine it being that tough to do.

on my previous boat, the canvas had screen, and the isenglass rolled up. That way, we could put the isengals down for storage or rain, and up for ventilation.

Current boat doesn't have all that, but it doesn't really need it, either, since the salon is a lot larger.

around these parts, you need screen, citronella candles, off bug repellant lamps, and sacrifices on the swim platform for the God of All Things that Eats No-See-Ums and Mosquitoes.

If you're lucky, you'll survive a summer weekend that way.
