I am very sold on getting a black hull on my next Sea Ray. I think it makes the boat look good. My reason for the post is to get opinions of anyone who has owned one of the latest colored hulls from Sea Ray. Especially anyone who has had a black colored hull. I am thinking black streaks will be a non issue, but salt might show up. I have heard that fading is really not an issue with the new hulls (e.g., 2004 and on), but if there is any feedback on fading and upkeep, please let me know as well.

I am thinking of ordering the 36 Sedan with a Black Hull.

Flettis-
I considered a blue hull for my sedan. In fact, there is a lengthy discussion on the topic on CSR. Search "blue hull" and you'll find it. (oops, I see Wesley has provied a link above  ). Even though the discussion is on blue hulls I think it will help you. I love colored hulls and I think they look really cool on the sleeker 'dancers. But I ended up not going with it because I thought the colored hull broke up the lines of the sedan, over-empasizing its tallness. Of course, this is highly subjective. Have you seen the 36 in black?

I have a 06' 290 SLX with the black hull and I love it. Turn heads everywhere I go. Thought about the blue hull first but after seeing so many blue hulls around, wanted something a bit unique. Cleans up really well too.

So far we haven't had any problems with our black hull. I make sure that there is always a good coat of wax on it. I also wash it down after every use.

Everyone comments on how much they like it. And we love it!!!!

I would take the black over the purple, I mean blue- hull anyday

Hey,

I resemble that remark. If you get close enough, they can look bad, but from a boat-length away and more, they really do turn heads even when they aren't perfectly clean and waxed.

I love our blue hull. I also like the black. I also like the white hulls with dark canvas, but they do show the black streaks a lot more (100% more).

Good luck.

The point is, if you don't keep your blue hull out of the sun as much as reasonable, oxidation free and protected by a UV inhibiting polish/wax you will soon join the purple hull club.

I like our blue hull but I like the black hulls even better. But they do require more care than a white hull. Mine will get at least two or three hull waxings a season and it gets washed at least once a week in season as well.

So far even the "neglected" blue or black hulls on the cruisers in our marina are holding up well too in terms of fading or changing color.

After a day of running in the salt does the salt and water show up on the hull?? I am thinking black on a 38' LOA boat is going to be A LOT of upkeep, but I also think that black streaks will not be an issue any longer....I am really leaning towards the black hull. I am planning on checking the boat out in person soon and will snap some photos to post.

all due respect- look at a brand new blue hull when its on land and the sun hits it- they are not blue, they are more blue-violet or purple.

when you have to mix this color you are not grabbing the cans of blue tint, you have to grab the blue-violet and violet to make the color.

They do water spot if you don't rinse them at the end of the day. I just make sure that I rinse every time we dock or wash when I put it on the trailer.
