Alabama recently passed what has been described as the nation's most restrictive immigration law. It was challenged in the courts and a US Court of Appeals Judge threw out a few parts of the law but kept most of it. The law took effect today.:smt038

One part of the law that was retained requires schools to verify a student's immigration status to determine if they are here legally.

One result of the new law is already apparent...families who are in the US illegally are pulling their children out of Alabama schools and leaving the state for other areas that have not yet passed illegal immigration laws.

Comments???

An immediate question that comes to my mind. Does any taxing authority have the legal right to force payment of taxes which are used in part to provide support services to anyone who is in this country illegally?

As a matter of fact, I just sent this question to one of our US Senators:

Is it legal for the US Government to use taxpayer dollars to provide support services of any type to anyone who is in this country illegally?

The schools are trying to keep the students in school because they receive federal dollars based on enrollment figures.
Don't you love it that your tax dollars are being spent to educate illegal immigrants? Of course, Obozo wants the Alabama ruling overturned.

The sad part is some of those kids probably aren't illegal.

My wife is one of the legislators who voted for the bill. The media has been really hammering them and not showing the successes of the bill. For instance, Alabama's unemployment rate has dropped 2 percent since the law took effect as the illegals left and legal citizens took their place. The surrounding states rates were essentially unchanged
