Bimini Trip June 22-26

wow, we just need this next week.. Still keeping fingers and toes crossed. Will be pulling the boat out hopefully Thursday morning, which doesn't leave me much time to touch up the bottom paint, check all the running gear, compound and wax the hull and get back in on Tuesday so I can load up and make it over to Bahia Mar Wednesday evening.. Not going to have time to wrap it, and hope I have time to do all the essentials

Trust me, I'm tryin'.........

Did you find a boat yard to do the work yet? I'm up in South Palm Beach County so I don't know allot of places in Lauderdale. I've had my boat serviced at Merritt's Boat yard in Pompano Beach and you won't find any place that does better work than them. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Randy,

Thanks. You're the second person to give them a good grade. I'm going to call them today.

OK, is anyone running around crazy doin' last minute preparation for the trip?????:smt101:smt101:smt101:smt101

I've been trying to get my list done a little at a time so there isn't a ton to do this weekend. So far, so good.

when are you leaving? you're staying in a hotel on Wednesday night?

Yes Randy, At Bahia Mar on Wednes. and maybe Sat. night on the Isand, it's my BIG 50 that weekend............. My couple friends that are flyin' in from Charlotte, NC have reserved a golf cart over there, guess they think I need one!!! LOL

I sure hope no one's going through last minute issues like I am!!!!!!:smt013

Well, lets see. I went to take the boat to the marina to have it pulled out of the water and just as I'm waiting for the travel lift to get in position so I can bring the boat in, my starboard engine quit and would not restart. Strong current and I'm by myself has me looking at whether I'm going to hit a boat, a piling or a dock.. A few guys jumped on the bows of two boats I was getting close to, and one grabbed a line and the other - the lift operator came on board and helped me maneuver the boat while I kept pushing off of pilings. Got the boat in the spot, got it lifted and WOW, the shafts, rudders, under water exhausts, trim tabs and props were caked with barnacles and growth, and the bottom paint was in fair condition at best, with a few outcroppings of growth near the bow. Also the intakes and any metal surfaces were covered.

Waited all day for them to pressure wash the boat and especially the running gear to help loosen the crap, but their pressure washer was not working. So spent all day going back and forth and while they moved it and put it on blocks, that was all done the whole day- oh except for my spending $115.00 per gallon for 2 gallons of Pettit hydrocoat bottom paint. Now I have to figure out how the heck to get the barnicales off of the rudders props and exhausts.. I tried a painters too scraper and that did nothing... Tomorrow should be a real fun day!!' how's that for a crazy stressful day??

thanks. I saw this tool: http://youtu.be/JPnkoe6pxl8 that looks great, but of course it's way overpriced because it's for a boat!!- over $300.00 I'm thinking the tool they sell at harbor freight--

for about $20.00 plus probably another $20 for the blade should do just about the same thing.. What do you all think?

Alright everyone, (Barry, Larry, Ray, Randy...ect) have ya done all your ops checks and ready to rip on thursday???

On my way back to the boat yard. Honestly not sure I'm going to be able to do what needs to be done to get the boat ready, so I might just have to pass on this trip.. A little overwhelmed right now.. Will see how it goes today and tomorrow before I decide.

Well, this is not good... The guy that runs the yard agreed yesterday to let me work today starting at 9am.. Had a friend meet me there at 9 and waited and called till 10:30 and no answer, and the yard is locked up....Looks like I won't be able to get any more done till tomorrow, and hopefully will find a way to still do what needs to be done and get the boat back in the water in time.. Then I still have to figure out what caused my starboard engine to quit on me while I was waiting in idle and waiting for the lift to be put in place...Don't want that to happen miles out at sea... Still a lot of growth on the running gear and intakes and more sanding of the existing bottom paint to make it receptive to take the new paint.. Could be making the trip in July instead if things don't change quickly.. Will let you all know by Tuesday... PS Happy Fathers Day to all Dads!!

Don't rush it! Do it right! You can go on our trip. I am so READY! I have every thing in order, other than cutting my pole for the grill and putting an angle in it so it sits level so my eggs and bacon grease will stop running over the sides of the griddle...lol!
