for those who can go, this weekend is perfect for boating to the Bahamas. Calm winds, flat seas, nice weather.

and I'm on week 11 of a major remodel. I'll be painting this weekend :smt089 then laying hardwood floors next weekend. Murphy's Law states that once I'm finished with the remodel it will rain for weeks and I'm stuck inisde.

Randy - Indeed! I've been watching the sea reports all week and wishing I was there. Alas, I'm back in Indy right now. HOWEVER - I'm moving my family down to Boca on June 1 (my wife finally caved!), so NEXT time, I CAN go on short notice!

I read in the current Southern Boating mag that the channel into Bimini Harbor has shifted. I'll be trying to find more information on this in the near future and posting it here. If anyone has first hand information, please post for all to see. The article suggest calling Robbie at Big Game before entering the channel for the latest. He can be reached by VHF or cell phone.

I just read the extended forecast - it says in 2 weeks, the winds and seas will be higher than normal (sorry, I couldn't resist. the forecast does not say that)

Just a heads up at what is happening in Bimini lately.....

Resort World (previously known as Bimini Bay) is building a 1,000 foot pier on the west side of Bimini so the newly operating Fast Ferry Ship can dock and not need to anchor off shore and shuttle people back and forth from the ship. Of course, the ship is mostly transporting people to Resort World's casino. Because the ship has a 25 foot draft, they need to dredge down to 30-35 feet deep. The location for this pier is within 3/4 mile of 14 established dive sites on the west side of Bimini. This is a highly contested issue among environmentalists and Dive operators on the island. To date, the developer has not produced a permit for the dredging or the pier. The developer has already has the dredging ship on site and intends to start work within the week. The dredger is described as a "reef destroyer" that breaks up the coral/hard material, not just sand. I tried to paste a link on this message but I couldn't figure out how to do it. You can find more information by searching the web, just search for "dredging bimini" look at recent items

Randy, I was there about a month ago and couldn't tell any big change in the harbor. Maybe a bit more narrow at the entrance.

The approach was different. More straight into the Sands inlet and a sharper turn to the North. Well marked though. They have legitimate buoys out.
