Bimini Trip 2013

I would prefer BBG. Bimini Sands (have not stayed there) but I woudl prefer to be on North Bimini. I have stayed at Bimini Bay, more expensive and the water is not clear at all. YOu don't get that Bahamas feel. Murcky water for the most part from what I have seen on 3 different trips, 3 different years.

My thoughts as well

Not sure that I can make it but I will say Bimini Sands was awesome when we went two years ago and has its' own night time party atmosphere and a short boat taxi or dinghy ride to North Bimini. No rolling wake action either compared to the channel by Big Game.

You're right about the wake at BBG, that's one thing I wish would change. It's mostly from boats coming/going to B Bay who don't slow down to idle.

It's been a while since I've been on this forum -- great to see so much new activity and interest in group Bimini trips. Although I sold my Sea Ray and I'm currently in-between having a boat with sleeping accommodations (I still have a center console that I'd take over), I'd like to join you guys on this trip anyway. I've been on many of the trips Randy had organized in the past and had a great time, every time. Although I prefer less busy weekends in Bimini (try to avoid Memorial Day & July 4th), I'll go with whatever date the majority decides. Same with the the Big Game / Bimini Sands decision. On that note, if a vote were to be taken, I'd vote Big Game for this trip and Bimini Sands for a 2nd trip this summer. Anyway, great to see Randy take the lead on this has he's done so many times before and I look forward to a great trip whenever and wherever it is!!

Set it up Randy, we'll b there. Pack your stuff Kendall, it'd b good to have another Lake Wylie Vet going.:smt038

I promissed my 260 I would not treat her to the gulf stream anymore after she got me home safely last year.....maybe I can find a bigger boat! ....I did have my fingers crossed!

I beat my 280 up pretty good the year before last, but hey, we made it, ready to do it again. Come on T-Bone's won't miss ya for a week!!

A recent post on Explorercharts.com.....

the newly dredged channel into north Bimini is wide and well buoyed. The dredge is gone. We do not have waypoints on the new buoys, but they will be easily seen once you get to the existing Explorer waypoint in Explorer Chartbooks Near Bahamas 6th edition outside the entrance.

Kendall, you need to post this in a Carolina Boaters thread. I try to explain to the club about the conditions, but don't think I do a very good job. They want me to take them to the Abacos, and I would but....they need a better understanding of conditions and how quickly they can go bad. I've been crossing since I was a kid, and my little 240da is fine for me BUT, would scare the pants off most people.
I have recommended this Bimini trip as a good learning trip, because there is no anchoring involved. Ya'll stay in marinas over night. Sleeping on your anchor overnight in a new spot is scary.

I am considering attending this trip. It sounds like a good time. Randy you can place me in the "maybe" position. Maybe I can bring along some of the Carolina Boaters too.

Randy did they dredge beside South Bimini island along the beach like it was before, OR in the middle where the temp channel was? My boat is small enough I can cut in close to the southern end of North Bimini, although I used the temp channel.

Great Mike, Would love to see ya, it's been yrs, hope you can make it.

Great to hear your going to try to make it. I'll update the list soon. The channel they dredged is the some or all of the route shown below, probably all the way into the City Docks. The last time I was there, the machine was just east of the shoaling area and bound up traffic pretty good. Nice to hear they have finished

by the way, the depths shown on that chart are old and precede the new route into the harbor which came into being about 2006. The thick purple line is my actual route as of Memorial Day 2012. The thin purple lines are much older routes before they established the new entry. The old route had you line up 2 pole markers on land, come in close to shore and navigate into the harbor

Good info Randy. Your Thick purple line is the channel I/we used when I was there last. I have used the dingy channel that is shown above the breaker shoal. Actually I followed a local out thru there. He kept looking back at me, I wondered why!? haha I had good water the whole way.
I like the BGC, seems like the old Bimini. I stayed at the Blue Water last time I was there. The owner was nice and the pool was great.
My tow vehicle will be the back breaker, if work doesn't get me first. Otherwise, it will be nice to see Alicetown again. It will be nice to catch up with you to Lance. Anyways, we'll see.

That dinghy channel is really cool. We've snorkeled there several times for lobster. There is a 15 foot wall and at the bottom is a ledge with bugs in it. Part of the channel is deep and part is very shallow. at middle tide, the current is super strong. best go out the D Channel at high tide in a small boat
