Bimini Trip 2013

Fwiw, which probably isn't much, it is almost always bad at the inlet. You get used to running around the storms. I still hate coming back in when you're surfing between the boats and rocks.

Don't give up on it. You learned a lot.

I agree that the inlets usually are most difficult, but once you get passed it and go in to dipper water things will get better.

We were on a trip few years ago during effy weather. The ICW was fine, but when we approach an inlet to go out in the ocean even the bigger boats were rocking. I was on my 320DA at the time and all I did was slow down to adjust the speed to take the waves properly without beating the boat and the crew. As we headed out further in to deeper water and changed the direction things were much different and we were able to continue on to our destination.

I know that it's different judging by not being there, but take it as a suggestion to try in the future.

As I said before, visibility was zero, and what appeared to be a microburst/Heavy, heavy heavy rain with lightning going on at 6:30 a.m., looked like night time. This is not the first time dealing with this inlet either, last trip to Bimini the whole ride over was identical to the inlet, rough. This was a total different animal, believe me, I was there.......

Came and went with no issues. We had perfect weather the whole time. Both crossings were good! Had a great time and enjoyed the beauty of the island. We had all the hot spots mostly to ourselves.

Robert came back Saturday morning, I was gonna go with him but wife didn't want to stay just for two nights. :(

I agree, wasn't worth the money for only 2 nights. Was wondering if he decided to stay an extra day or 2 once he got there because I would probably still be there if I went.

I hear you. The main thing is that you made the call that felt safe. So, it's much better be safe than sorry. Hopefully you'll have better luck this time. Ironically this Memorial Day weekend happened to be a bust for tons of people up here in the Northeast due to cold, wet and windy conditions. Our rendezvous that we were waiting for the past couple of months had to be cancelled, not to mentioned that the air show was cancelled as well.

@ Tom, Robert stayed thurs and fri night, came home early sat, it was windy as hell trailering home monday. @ Alex, sorry your plans got canceled too.:/

Hey Joel, I passed you in North Lauderdale today around 11:30 a.m., tryed you on VHF 16, we were headed to Harbortown in Dania Bch, after 2 nights in West Palm Bch, catch ya next time, sucks we didn't see Bimini this trip.

Awe - too bad I didn't catch you on the radio. I THOUGHT I had the radio set to "dual watch" 9 and 16, but there were a couple of times the radio jumped out of that mode. I was on 9 most of the time for the bridges. Too bad - I had spent the previous days in Key Biscayne and was headed up to Lake Boca to raft up w/ Randy and Mike. We spent the day + night there on the hook. Had a great time!

Yes, we need to try again!

Thanks to everyone who planned and contributed to the Memorial Day 2013 trip, I'm sorry that it didn't happen as planned. As we all know, the weather/seas were OK on Thursday/Friday but went downhill fast on Saturday. As it turned out, Monday and today were terrible sea days so we made the right choice not to go for the 4 day weekend. The forecast for the rest of this week is not good so unless you could extend your trip by 7-10 days, it was the right choice.

I hope to see you all soon on another trip this summer.

I was at the beach in Fort Lauderdale today for a project and couldn't believe how rough the seas were... No way you'd want to be out there let alone in the Gulfstream, so you all definitely made the right choice!

I am planning on heading over the last week in July with my son so anyone up for that trip, let me know . Staying at Bimini Bay with the fling..assuming I get the boat in shape well before!!

Should we start the Bimini 2014 Thread?
