I always have a small amount of water in the bilge, less than 1/2 inch. It seems the bilge pump and float switch are working properly. If I manually turn on the pump most of the water in the bilge is vacuumed up but when I release the manual switch the water comes back in via the pump. Is there something I am missing? Shouldn't there be some type of check valve that would prevent the water from flowing back into the bilge? Your advice is appreciated.

Think it's leaking back past the check valve over time, all mine do the same. I just use the shop vac to get the last bit of water so my bildge is completely dry. I can then hopefully spot any minor leaks early.

Where is the check valve located? I would assume that it would be close to the thru hull outlet.

My check valve is about 18 - 24 inches away from the pump, so even when the valve is working correctly, the water from the valve back to the pump will drain back when the pump is not running.

The water that leaks back is the water in the line that is above the water line of the boat and before the check valve. Unless you are improperly plumbed or have a leak, it is not coming in from outside of the boat. This is the water that never makes it past the loop in the overboard discharge line.

The non return valves mounted in my 410DA...YMMV...

I agree with Frank.
Every boat I have owned has had an inch or 2 or water in the bottom. No harm...leave it alone and don't worry about it.

Thanks to all for the info. I assumed it was the water left in the hose connected to the pump. I just wasn't sure about the check valve. Get out the shop vac. I hate water in the bilge...

Osd9, I like the location of your plugs. That is a good idea. I may place mine like that. My luck though I would then not be able to locate anything to cut the wire tie.
